In essence a guru is not particularly just someone out of anyone, but literally everyone is your guru, if you chose to learn the lesson that is in store for you.
A wise adage says, "Even a fool has his story to tell". The question isn't who our guru is, but more so, will we listen when we realize Guru is everything, including ourselves?
With this said it is important to caution not to idolize any one individual as anyone earth bound is probably still working through their Karmic process.
It is all too easy to want to project all our hopes and dreams on to one person of notability. However, though the may have achieved much in some areas, they may not have done so in other equally important areas.
Be an independent sojourner trusting in your internal compass, and not only will you not be let down so easily, you will also find your way that much sooner, without getting stuck in the trap of guru worship.

I think Billy Graham is one of the best Christian evangelists of this generation. Guess he could be a "guru".
Spurgeon and Wesley were two others that were fantastic and more prolific in their writings.

i somewhat dislike the time period "genuine Christian"™. It does not something yet promote branch. It says that the speaker considers him/herself more suitable useful than different Christians. delight comes beforehand a fall. it isn't a time period i'm in my opinion interested in creating use of. inspite of the actuality that, if I berate the "genuine Christian" crowd, then i ought to discover myself in mistakes because i'm passing judgment on others. nevertheless, I favor to stay away from the time period on each occasion plausible. also, it stinks of the "genuine Scotsman" fallacy.
