I live too far to make her a meal myself. I want to send a gift certificate she can use whenever she needs it most -- prefereably good for a variety of area restaurants

It depends on where she lives and what type of deliveries are available in her area, what her preferences are and what types of food she will be able to tolerate depending on the type of cancer she has and what the treatment is for it.

In many major cities they now how a "Waiter on The Way" which offers deliveries for many popular chain restaurants, some fast food places, and even a few "Mom and Pop" local spots, so it can offer a wider variety than just for one restaurant and that way she can pick whatever she craves.

Most cities at least have a pizza place that will deliver, but pizza may be to spicy; fortunately, more and more pizza places are diversifying their menus to include a wider variety of foods.

Good luck and wish your friend the best on her recovery!

It depends where she lives. We had a flyer through the door a while back offering this service but I haven't heard whether it's still going. I wondered about the financial implications of it at the time and concluded that it would be very hard for anyone to make it viable. Doesn't mean it's not a brilliant idea, but it would require an enormous amount of organisation, some very good discounts from the restaurants and an assurance of quick pickup and delivery.

Depending on where she lives, call several of the takeaways/takeouts and discuss the idea with the manager. They may agree to hold an amount of money for you or to bill you. If I did that, I would want to be sure I could trust them, though!

That is a nice idea. Is she going through chemo? I know all about cancer, my hubby had it and it was hell! I do know that he did not have a big appetite because of the chemo, but your idea is a good one. Alot of restaurants have delivery service available now. What are you looking for suggestions on?

Try seeing if meals on wheels would come out to deliver a good meal.

What does she like best, and take it from there.
