Gasp,
This is my guess. When God finally decided to approach man with the message of reconciliation, the Middle East was the center of civilization. Israel was the hub of most of the trade routes of the known world. What better place to start the process of letting us know that He is waiting for us? Anyway, you don't need anyone's religion to find God. He is right next to you, and all around you. He has been waiting all your life. The Kingdom of God is within you. You only have to approach Him with a childlike attitude of trust, and invite Him into your heart. He will send His Spirit into you and bond with you, and you will never be the same again.

who do you mean by "us" ? The Romans had their own religious beliefs that are now nonexistent, they really have nothing to do with it. Most christian religions started at a time when the middle east was the most important part of the world Alexandria and what is now Persia were hubs for the most intelligent thinkers of that time. Much different than the sands and ruins that we now know today. Most major religions are based off events that happen in this time frame, because that is really the only place that had real activity. (BC/ad time frame). Religion is based is supposed to based on faith, but the major religions of today all have beginnings that you can visit today (Mecca, Jerusalem, etc..). People need this connection to rationalize their connection with their religion. Smaller native religion are based on parts of history that people are not at all familiar with. It is too hard to make someone believe in a god or otherwise when the entire basis of the religion is foreign to them. That is why you have seen a small increase in western and holistic medicine, people are being exposed to it and feel more comfortable with it.
I'm not saying that either side is right, but think about this...Christianity can be argued to start 2000 years ago. The rest of the world only discovered Western civilization about 500 years ago.

why are these religions so popular is the question I think. So that is what I will attempt. Islam and Christianity are the only two major religions that built into themselves an evangelical structure and instruction. No other faiths carry the order to spread the word and to make converts, by force during much of the Christian history, by the same sort of force for much of Muslim history also. They have also been effective at holding their territories and even expanding into new areas. One of their other advantages was the jealous guarding of communication skills. how to read and write was only taught in a church or in a Mosque. This gave them a very valuable tool in international affairs. They were involved in every International deal, recorded it and took their cut of the profits. Growth was phenomenal. Why these are the most popular religions has little to do with middle eastern deities and everything to do with political structure and economics. that is enough for now goodnight

It started with the ancient idea of heresy. And it has carried on until today.

In many ways I find it ironic, as there is so much to Christianity that is indeed based on Pagan rituals and beliefs. The Romans began tying together Christian and Pagan beliefs so that the Pagans could "more easily convert" to Christianity.

One good example of this is why we celebrate Easter in the Spring. In addition to the ressurection of Christ, it is also symbolic of the rebirth of agriculture from the winter, and a time for Mother Nature to bring nature alive once again. By tying these together, Pagans were much more likely to believe in the idea of Easter, and as time progressed, there was a stronger assimilation.

Judaism was established in early Israel,
Christianity also originated in Israel when Jesus came, and
Islam was founded by Muhammad in the Middle East.
All great religions were established in the Middle East because the early civilizations developed thereat.

Judaism, Christianity and Islam
Look at them, they are the same thing.
They spread from the original Judaism.Same concepts of God and of human nature.Same organization and structure.
same final ideals and ideas.(sticking to the doctrine)
............................
The other source of a monoteistic belief is the far East.
Buddhism,Taoism,Zen,Induism,
They state concept who are absolutely different from the above.
their idea of God (do they preach an actual God?hmmm) and of nature and life is the truely 'other' religion'

The other beliefs (continental europe 'druids'...south americans
' god-birds'), have disappeared beacause they were beliefs, never been organized (hyerarchic structure) the way those monoteistic faiths have.

Note. look at how similar are native americans ' religion and taoism .

And yes, Romans 'imported' and incorporated the christian faith, as official religion of the empire with Constantine, and spread it thru Europe.islam faith raised as politically opposed to the European settings, 700 yeas later. Its wasnt matter of faith, but of politics(or military).

Rude? just accurate.
ciao

Yeah. If monotheism hadn't reared it's hideous head, we would have been still worshipping many gods. We wouldn't have to worry about JWs and witch hunts, about people hooting and hollering about the second coming of some nonexistant communist from Roman times.

I'm not sure I understand the question--but here goes.
The three main religions in North America are based on the God of Abraham. That God and the Old Testament are based on earlier Persian mythology. (Zoroastrian)
