while black is very chic and not at all "funeral" for a black-tie wedding, it is also a bit out-of-place for a summer wedding. i wouldn't worry about the color of the catering hall when choosing the shade for bridesmaids. the hall tends to blend into the background anyway.
champagne- however- is a lovely color for a summer evening wedding.
here are some other color combos that are great for a summer wedding:
sage and ballet pink
mocha & champagne
chocolate & ballet pink
navy & cream
aqua & chocolate
bisque & camel
silvery gray & ballet pink
If you are in love w/ the black bridesmaid gown idea- you can still pull it off. The wedding should be evening and the attire for guests should be formal. The other details should also be formal.
OR you can do black- but not full-length for the maids. choose a tea length style and incorporate pink or another shade trim on the gowns. I think Raylia and Alfred Sung both have some that would work.
Good Luck!

I don't think black is "too funeral". I did black for my bridesmaids dresses. I had a color delima as well. I wanted black, white and goldenrod yellow for a fall wedding. When we visited the church it was red - I mean red! Red carpet, red pews and a red gymnasium curtain. I about died! Then I thought and thought and came up with doing jewel tones. We wound up with the original colors but added some red roses, deep purple and cobalt blue to tie in with the blue reception hall. I'd suggest looking at some paintings & magazines to find what has your colors in them to see what other colors go well with them. Look thru your fashion mags for fall trends - see if pink or dark green will be in and what they're being paired with. Gold & champagne can be neutralized.

I like black. The dresses will be good to really use after the wedding. I wouldn't mind investing in a little black dress. I have a purple and a gold bridesmaid dress mushed into the back of my closet that will never see the light of day again.

I have a friend getting married in May and she's using black...my finace's sister wants to use black in her wedding...when I think of black I think classy and elegant...black is a very popular color for bridesmaids right now...I don't think its too much like a funeral..it's your wedding and if you like it then go for it(my mom tells me this everyday)!! Make your wedding, "your wedding" not what someone else says or likes...make it as unique as you and your fiance...so for the black I say go for it if thats what you like...I think it will be beautiful and go fine with the color scheme(personally I wouldn't use one of the colors of the catering hall)...you can always do you bouquets and flowers around the color scheme of the catering hall....I think pink flowers would be absolutely beautiful with the black dresses...best of luck to you and good luck on your wedding and marriage...

black is very popular for bridesmaids now. There are some amazing dresses by Alfred Angelo that come in black and have a splash of champagne or gold. Of course you can find black dresses and dress them up with some gold or champagne yourself with the addition of a shawl, sash and gold shoes. Gorgeous!

Black bridesmaid dresses has become quite the norm. If that's what you want to do, then do it. It is your wedding. If you are really particular about having your maids match the site, then chose one of the colors that you like most. But don't pick something that's going to make them blend in to the surroundings too much. You don't want them to get lost or overlooked.. :)

I wore black in my friends wedding and it was beautiful. The bridesmaids were all in simple long black dresses with white roses and she had red roses. It was a Vegas wedding, so the reception was in a restraunt and we all just went dancing afterwards.
do what YOU like, its your wedding! :)
good luck!
