I don't have any other addictions (no smoking or drinking at all) but whenever I'm bored or have the chance I'm eating, mainly snaks (both sweet and salty) I do live an active lifestyle, I'm not fat (have a few kg's on) but started to gain some weight lately but I still can't switch my mind off eating. Its horrible, I hate myself for it and I still do it. Can anyone help with some ideas???

If you are addicted to eating you look into OA (overeaters annonymous) they can help you figure out why you are addicted to these foods and help you to give up the bad foods and just eat healthy.

Take a couple of seconds to really think about what you are eating. I love my food too, but I can easily tell what is a craving and what is real hunger. If I can't imagine eating anything else but what I choose at any given time, I know it's a craving. If I can imagine eating almost anything I can think of that is food, then it's hunger. Also, you can wait until your stomach rumbles or you get cramping...that means you are hungry. It takes practice, but this worked for me. You can also try distracting yourself somehow, take a walk outside (away from temptations) or remove yourself from the places you usually eat in. Your need to eat may be related to the activity too, if this is the case, make sure you get plenty of carbohydrate (low GI, carbs take ages to burn off) and small amounts of protein. Make sure you drink at least 4 litres of water a day too! Hunger can sometimes be dehydration in disguise!

Yes! People really should be eating several small meals/healthy snacks in a day instead of 3 heavy meals. Eat something healthy every 2 hours.

Some ideas for snacks: A piece of fruit, pickles, a lowfat yogurt, nuts, baby carrots, a slice of reduced fat cheese etc.

At lunchtime, have 1/2 a sandwich on whole wheat bread or a nice salad with your favorite veggies and low cal dressing

you say you lead a active life then where is the time for you munch? first prepare your self not to eat make up your mind strong . keep the plate ful eatables infront of you and start imagining you will be come so fat you cannot wok you are exausted you look very ugly like this if you cannot suceed in this test just sit ina place or in a park for 2to 3 hours where you cannot find or even can see eatables. i hope after a few days you will over come your problem. let you have a strong mind.

keep a food journal..and write in it..everything that goes in your mouth..then under it..write why you are eating it...are you hungry, bored, stressed, is it there..etc.

another idea is...measure everything by a cup first, then decrease the amount you are eating....in a week/month basis.

eat something healthy every 3 hours...apple, small salad, nuts ...I tend to crave something salty (nuts) or sweet (golden delicious apple) when I am snacking...

also..tell yourself..I am going to walk for 15minutes before I eat my next snack...after you walk..ten to one you won't be hungry. or tell yourself..after I have 5 glasses of water..or even 1..I can have that...hopefully you will be full by then.

clean out all the junk food.and stock up on healthy stuff....that way when you are eating..it is healthy...make smoothies....with fruit, yogurt, frozen yogurt..etc....

First you should know what hunger is. Try to find it out, then u will understand how the millions of poor starving souls feels. Once u understand that u will stop eating unnecessarily.

try dringink water inbetween meals and also try to eat several small meals a day. this will not only speed up your matabolisim but it will also help you loose a lil weight. GOOD LUCK it worked for me.
