The best way to getting instant sleep, like i do, is make ur mind vacant. No thinking, no tension, nothing. U cannot achieve it in a day, but u can give it a try. And obviously, if u have no physical work to tire u out, then it is real hard. But dinner at least 2 hrs b4, light meal and a book on ur choice, helps to get it done. Give a try and u will find a way. Best of Luck.

Several things can help-
1 - Don't eat a heavy meal late on (finish eating by about 7pm)
2 - Have a warm (not hot) bath, nice bubbles etc
3 - Don't watch too much tv/play computer/read (these over-stimulate you)
4 - No heavy exercise, perhaps a nice walk after dinner would be ok
5 - Mull over your day so that you don't lie awake going over days events

Easy, a very simple and effective way is to either listen to monotonous beating, or easier by imagining a bunch of pines bending in two directions simultaneously in a very monotonous way, very effective.

Drinking warm milk, having a small bite or two of turkey, stretching and keeping your room cool & dark can be very soothing. :)
