Maybe because it looks cool to have 2 images, 1 reversed?

For the same reason the airline name runs forward to aft on one side and aft to forward on the other. Flags have two sides.

Flags also blow in the direction of the wind. As the wind from the aircraft's point of view would always come from the front the correct way for the flag to be depicted would be for the mast side to be forward with the flag flowing away to the rear.

Instead of thinking of these flags in terms of 'left side, right side', think in terms of 'flag pole side, flapping in the breeze side'. The 'flag pole side' should be toward the front of the plane, just as if this were a real flag, a flag made of cloth flying from a little flag pole carried by a horseman or flying from a car or truck.

Flow direction. So the flag looks like it is flying correctly as the plane flies in the sky. From front to aft.
