Advantage. It prevents the flea eggs (nits) from hatching.

You need to treat the house. Vacuum the carpet and then sprinkle Twenty Mule Team Borax on the carpet. Repeat everytime you vacuum for 2-3 weeks. The borax in the product will kill the fleas that you have and as the eggs hatch, it will kill them too.
I use an otc topical spot on called Bio Spot. On my dogs, it works very well. Haven't seen a flea or tick in over 10 years.

If the animals are allowed outside there are 3 steps to getting rid of fleas. 1..treat the pets....2 treat the house....3 treat the yard. They could be bringing them in the house.

Go to the vet and buy Frontline- it's the best on the market and does the trick, not natural but nothing entirely natural will kill fleas outright. It's all safe though
good luck

I have kids too. I used "frontline plus" which kills eggs, fleas, everything, on monthly basis. It's just a few drops of alcohol on the pet's neck. Leave them in the cage overnight with a fan on to help dry up faster. Next day, use a damp cloth to clean up the area. Your kids wil not be endangered.

On the dog use Revolution, you can get that from your vet
http://www.agri-med.com/site/255063/product/REV-DOG21-40-3CT
And in your home use http://www.fleabusters.com
It is a powder and it is extremely safe, you put on the carpet, it is guranteed by the company to kill any fleas for up to a year. I used it for years before I got rid of the carpet.
Nothing else works like this stuff.. You can also have them come out and put it on for you, but that is pretty costly, and it is really easy to do yourself..

Advantage, Frontline - find the best one for your pets that they do not have an adverse reaction to. Get the veterinarian to dip them or do it yourself (ask vet for best method). Also, treat areas with 7-Dust. It works well in the yard, and I believe in the home (carpet, in furniture, cabinets, closets, etc.) as well. Make sure you clean and wash everything (clothes, sheets, etc.) in the home. Get a good spray to kill fleas for furniture and corners of the home. Do a thorough treatment.

Program doesnt actually kill the fleas but it makes them sterile so there is no next generation. It cleaned me (and several people i know) out of fleas. Sentinal heartworm has the same ingredient in it.
