Okay, lets start with your hypothesis itself before I provide any of my view point.
a) None of the scientific evidences or theories are proven about mind. So what's basis of your hypothesis. So I guess this is just what you believe, needless to say that you haven't done any research on it in my opinion. I'm sure none of us can 100% commit that mind cease to exist when brain dies, so I'm not sure how you are sure of that.
b) Even though science has not proven but has recognized the presence of sub-consciousness that is not completely in the relm of science.
c) In your own language, mind, a program running on brain. Hmm..that's a very layman's view. Getting to next level of detail, ofcourse it must mean a control system over brain, a control system that is not any of the components of the brain. So where is this system physically existing. Surely mind is not just brain because all sub-conscious activities and other accomplishments human have got that say mind over matter can't be done simply by brain power.
d) If you are interested in exploring the meta-physical knowledge and areas of sprituality, you might like to visit http://www.crystalclarity.com/yogananda/index.html

The mind is not matter and yes is non material. The Brain are composed of matter, cells, tissues , blood,etc that is tangible and can be touched or seen. The mind is the electrical impulses on what goes on in the brain. When man dies the brain dies, the mind does not. It is our link to higher consciousness. It is the mind that can grasp the vastness of the universe and can contain it in the brain.

Did you ever think why brain dies? If we are only machines why are we so emotional and family oriented or social? I believe there is something, which is material, and major part of it is non-material. What is material is going to destroy, and which is non-material is eternal. I believe Matter destroys, Energy changes its forms and Soul remains Eternal.
We have five senses on which we differentiate our world, but there are much more than what we know, much more is yet to discover, much more is beyond logic and knowledge. Don’t just jump on the conclusion. Know we are at just 5% of awareness of total Consciousness. This is just one civilization, another civilization of Super Humans yet to come.

Our mind does cease when we die. You have that part right.
Ecclesiastes 9:5
5 For the living know that they will die;
But the dead know nothing,
And they have no more reward,
For the memory of them is forgotten.
Ecclesiastes 9:6
6 Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished;
Nevermore will they have a share
In anything done under the sun.

No wonder people without faith do not want to give what they believe to others.
There is truth in religions I can't accept as a whole.
I do believe there is a true self not a True Self. I believe this true self, the truthful, authentic part of myself has a lot to say. When I am still and know that God is God I can begin a dialog with Him. This authentic self that He purposed for me to be can
emerge.
The Truth I embrace fully is Jesus...not atheism, Buddhism, Muslim, etc.
If I were an atheist I would want to believe what you believe. It would be comforting to believe there is no God to whom I am accountable for my life choices.
Thank you for allowing me to share.

what a sad philosophy, to think that we are nothing more than machines, or "biological computers"...we are NOT accidents-we are the creation of our God...i think a lots of folks' minds cease to exist when they attempt armchair metaphysics...

takes a lot of faith to believe that we are some mere accident. human beings are made up of three parts are spirit are soul and are flesh. the soul is are essence its who we are, we have many different traits. are spirit which is dead caused by sinning against are creator because we can not exist spiritualy without GOD.GOD told adam and eve not to eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the day you eat of it you shall surely die. she did eat and her death was a spiritual one. that is why CHRIST said we must be born again that which is born of the flesh is flesh but that which is born of the spirit is spirit. are flesh is human instincts which are corrupted by sin, are flesh is contrary to GOD it is self seeking.that is why their is so much contrast on earth one human who allows GOD to work through his spirit can be so kind and gentle and another human being who allows his flesh to dominate his existence is capable of horrific things. are spirit and soul can not die it is eternal if we are born again of the spirit then we can live in heavenly places with are GOD forever .if we are not born again are soul will forever be seperated from its creator and that by default is hell.hell was not created from humankind it was created for fallen angels but if we chose not to recognize are creator we will forever be seperated from his presence . it s not the universe that doesn't require are existence its GOD who doesn't require are existence but he created us in love for his pleasure and we have all together gone astray but thanks be unto CHRIST and his sacrifice we can once again can come into communion with are GOD and savior
