My epson scanner is about 7 years old. I since got a new computer w/ a Windows XP operating system and when I tried to hook up my old scanner to my new computer, my scanner would not work. Can I download a software from the internet that will allow my Windows XP to support my old scanner?

Yes Windows Xp should pick up the scanner immediately but if not go click the link I have posted below and find the correct drive for your scanner model. That should make it work for yah http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/SupportIndex.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes

If this is one of the parallel port scanners, you are out of luck.
It simply won't work on windows above Win98 - PERIOD.
Actually, most non-printer parallel port devices such as tape backup units, zip drives, CD-ROM drives, had drives....if it used to hook up to the printer port, XP just doesn't allow the drivers to directly manipulate the port the way they need to in order to function. I have anumber of parallel port devices, and I have to keep a Win98 machine around in case I need to use them.

The upside is that scanners are cheap, and as great as the old parallel port epson scanners were, you simlpy cannot make them work on XP. Trust me, I've tried.
