There is this building I go to right behind the White House in D.C. Across the street is the V.A. Headquarters. There are always two homeless people there one on one side if the building and one on the other. I always give at least a dollar to one or the other depending on where I park. These guys are in bad shape, both are entitles to V.A, benefits but due to the experiences they had they will not take anything from the government. The Building I go to by the way is the U.S. Bank of Import and Export. Run by the government of course. Billions go though it each day. I know their stories because the Secret Service who are all over the place their, told me about them. It is sad, but they refuse help, just want a few dollars a day to get by and to be left alone.

Ive read some beggars in seattle made 100,000$ per year and a freind of mine gave a beggar some money watched him for awhile and the beggar got into a brand new pick up truck and drove off. Sure there are some needy people out there but why not donate it to a shelter instead of the person directly?

I do not give cash to anyone on the street. I do send cash to the Homeless shelters in my home town. They do a great job of helping. You can read about vets who are homeless at the link below.

I never have and never will! By just giving money to the homeless for nothing in return, you are just creating a society where begging is the easy way out!

I stopped giving directly to homeless when someone showed me how I was enabling a drug addiction, and helping them evade the social services that might result in a cure or control of their mental illness.

I generally give money after I talk to someone for a bit to see their character.

Mostly I do volunteer work or buy food or something else that's useful: like a train ticket etc.

I offer a gift card for the Subway across the street. If anyone ever accepts, I'll consider cash.
