Going to Bangkok with husband -- can you recommend a Canal Trip? One in the morning to catch the people & sights, and one dinner cruise in the evening.

The dinner cruises are nice, but be aware that they are VERY touristy! My husband and I took his parents on one when they visited us. The food is very toned-down and not very good, and not authentic.

As for a boat ride during the day, there are lots of options! My husband and I LOVE a certain one that is near the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel. If you go around the corner from the hotel to the right, there should be a sign. They have options from just a 1 hour ride through the klongs, to like a 4 hour tour to the various centers located on the klongs like the snake farm and gardens.

These tours are a GREAT way to see a lot, and to beat the heat. A boat ride is slow, easy and very cool. They can take you to several souvinier vendors on the river, or you can just as easily opt out. Be aware that once you stop, these vendors will be VERY persistant. They do not have anything that you cannot find elsewhere for much cheaper.

Have fun! Bangkok is a great city

The usual dinner cruises are along the Chao Phraya River. Some of the hotels do their own river cruise, but if you are there on a travel package, the local travel agent there can help you make a booking and even provide transportation to the cruise centre. Various choices available there. There are different route and meals on board, so let the travel agent know how you want the cruise to be like. Cost from 1500baht up per adult.

The morning cruise is more of sightseeing and you will probably be along the same route at night. Just ask the local guide to help you.
