I think you should watch it first to know when the scenes occur that would be inappropriate. Other than that my five year old loves that film. When I watched it I realised how much she would love all the singing and dancing. She is aware that I skip a couple of scenes, as I have told her there are "some mean" people in that. She is totally accepting. I love watching it with her as she sings along to all the tunes - we call the film "The girl who falls off the swing and gets poorly"!!

Well put it this way.... would you let your child watch "Lost" or watch telly after 9pm when they should be in bed...
what time should a child of ten go to bed?
Moulin Rouge.... is okay if you are watching it with your child!
Too many rules for parents to understand when they are showing 15 certificates film before 9pm on T.V.

A better question is, could you keep a 10-year-old awake through Moulin Rouge?
It's not pitched to 10-year-olds, and doubt that it would hold his attention. Too much talking & singing, not enough gasoline explosions, you see.

All I can say is that from age 10/11 years old my parents let me watch any movie regardless of its age certificate-I saw alot of cert 18 horror movies-they would just hire them from the video shop for me.....(to keep me quiet I think!) as a parent now I am completely appalled by this!
I still sleep with the light on at age 31 thanks to the terrible things I have seen in cert 18 movies.
The age certificates are there for a reason-so if its not in your childs age group then you should explain this to her and say no.
Our kids are only kids for a short time and exposing them to sex/violence before they are ready to understand does not do them any good!

I love that movie. It's a great musical. It's rated PG-13 which means some material may not be suitable for kids under 13. Cover the childs eyes during questionable parts. I dont remember there being that many at all though.

i think it is a wonderfull film but only you can decide if your child is ready to watch it. Children are more grown up at 10 now than they used to be so if your child is sensible and they really want to watch it i cant see why not

Absolutely. It explains life's darker and brighter sides in one almost-Disney aminated movie..an easy transition choreo and cinematographically, and a healthy change into pre-teen pubic hair-free tumultuous sweetness. He/she shud also read Les Miserables. I remember reading it when I was 11 or 12. Thank you 4 da Q. I'll keep it in my mind when I have my future 7 kids .(I'm still 15 and I like prime numbers)clamoring about sex and finding it ugly.

Isn't there a scene or two a little mature for a 10 year old?

i think GeekieV has the right idea watch it and edit out the bits you feel are innappropriate for your child - singing and dancing for most of the songs was ok for younger viewing ,not all edit the movie yourself for your child, it's easy enough to get video editing software and it's worth it to keep your child's mind that of a child rather than one that has been damaged by the audio visual and physical stimuli it has been exposed to
