Before you start using your new things, like a yo yo or a skateboard, then introduce them to the dog. Have the yoyo sitting on the floor, not moving, then he will be comfortable around it. Then obviously reward him for not being scared. But don't leave a skateboard in the middle of the floor - I've seen toooo many movies!

It is best not to draw attention to the problem if you notice him getting stressed over something new, just ignore it, don't even stroke or talk to him, if you make a fuss of him he will think that there really is something to worry about, I have a dog very similar to yours and only yesterday, it started to thunder quite loudly I was at my computer desk so he immediately went under it, I went out into the kitchen and made a drink ie. carried on doing normal things thereby letting him know that the noise didn't bother me so nothing for him to worry about he soon came out to see what I was up to, it sounds a bit cruel but it works, I took this advice from an animal behaviourist.

He's just a puupy yet, and getting used to new everyday things, if he were a rescued dog he might be a bit nervous, dogs have brillliant memory and never forget both good and bad things, the key is patience, lot's of love and understanding, remember he's still a baby getting to know this big world.

Sounds like something has really distressed your dog at one time. Has he ever been abused by someone or scared by something really bad? I think he has, whether you know about it or not.
I would work with him, try to assure him, it will take some time, but in the long run it will be worth it, it will build a trust between the two of you, and help him deal with things he faces in the future. Good luck.

he just needs to adapt to new things , take him for a walk in the park with kids on bikes and using balls etc , let him have a good experience with you , give him a treat when he doesn't react to anything . its only experiences with things that will cure this , you would be scared of a yo yo flying about if you haven't seen one before and didn't know its purpose , hell get better be patient with him , he sounds great fun . good luck .

Sounds as though, your Dog wasn't expoesed enough to things in general, when it was young. If you got your Dog from a Shelter, the Dog could have been abused at some point in it's earlier years, explaining the fear of everything.

love and reward is the way to go....every time he does something good , Reward him....Find the ONE thing that makes him most afraid and sit him next to it...and reward with treats if he is good.
We had the same form a GSD that was beaten by its loast owner...but after a bit of TLC he was the best dog i have ever had.... We miss him very much... he died at the good age of 19.!
Good luck , hope it works out..

I think your dog had a trauma before which caused him to be afraid of new stuff. Why not try to trace the past events that happened to your dog which cause your dog to be traumatized?
