It is an international regulation that the pilot do not drink 24hrs before flying or while flying. Doing so can strip them of their flying license. So this is a major offence if he is found doing so. When reported, the airline company will have to answer to the federal body which can prosecute the pilot as well as the company.

It is not only against the rules but is an arrestable offence everywhere in the world. If you know of a pilot or member of the cabin crew who drink during a flight you should report it to the police and airline authorities.

If you think drink driving kills what do you drink flying could do?

its neither normal nor acceptable. The airlines industry is very strict about this matter. I think the airline staff is governed by the alcohol policy of the company. I think the athorities have a final and overiding powers if someone is found guilty.
