If you are going to answer notepad please explain
how, because when I am going to save a file in notepad
when a look at the "save as type" drop-down box there
is no ASCII there.

Save it as *.txt and as ANSI in notepad, and it will save as ASCII.
Also, if you use Word, save your file as Plain Text (*.txt) and it should be pure ASCII. Basically *.txt is the extension for ASCII text in Windows.

in notepad the dropdown list gives ANSI which is also ASCII

generally speaking any Save As type which is .txt is plain ASCII except Word for Windows which puts in additional characters
