Of course - just ask the chicken.

truth exists in context. the question, as formulated, has no defined context and can not be meaningfully answered.
you must enlarge the context until it is a superset of both chickens and eggs. for this particular matter, we must turn to paleontology and comparative anatomy.
then your problem will be determining exactly at what moment the first chicken appeared from an egg laid by something that was not quite a chicken.
if you mean to be metaphorical rather than literal, then the problem you propose is a goedelian intractable. there is insufficient information (due to unbounded context) for it to be resolved at all.
to illustrate with a textbook example:
'this statement is a lie'
the statement can only be resolved by enlarging the context to subsume it whereupon you can easily say 'this is a self-contradiction'.
whenever you meet such an intractable, merely enlarge the context and it will be simple. if it is not simple, you have not adequately defined a suitable context.
next trick question!

Depends on who you ask. Bible says chicken.

I would imagine, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, that the egg would have to hatch as a mutation from a different species and it's beneficial trait would be inherited and after an unbelieveably long time, chickens would be a species. So the egg according to evolution, I guess (not sure, didn't pay much attention in Biology--dropped it and took astronomy).

The chicken. God created all the different animals.
The chicken has to sit on the egg to keep it warm in order for it to hatch!

Since God created all creatures, then he would have created the chicken. Later on the chickens would have mated then came the egg(s), then more chickens.

Read Genesis Chapter one. God made the birds of the air on the 5th day. So the chicken defiantly. See the Bible does hold the answers.
