Go for it, it should make you closer anyway. My Jack Russell stays in my bed and licks my feet. He also sits on my lap when I drive which I try to discourage.

I have a yokshire terrier who is 10 years old and all her life she has slept on my bed. She will not sleep on her own at night. She likes the company. I dont see any harm in it.

you already are allowing it (i apologise if this is behavior he learned from a previous owner), the time to ask this question was before you started letting him sleep on the bed just as well its not a major issue because retraining is hard....if he's happy and your happy thats all that matters...its not like its a great dane

There's no reason why you shouldnt but be warned.
You are elevating his status by allowing him to sleep on your bed, and it will go to his head. He will begin to think that you belong to him and treat you accordingly. He may refure to allow anyone else to sleep on there with you in future.
It's nice to have company but it's important for him to remember thats it's your bed not his.

yes.. it depends on you.. but for hygenic purposes.. its better if the dog stays out of your bed.. your dog could get a place near or beside your bed.. the down side of having dogs in your bed: dog hair, fleas, dirt, etc.. and you might kick your dog or roll over him or something while your asleep.. =P

yes, it's perfectly normal if he stays on the edge. if he starts sleeping in the middle (closer to you) do not allow him by saying NO firmly otherwise, he won't let you sleep.

my dog sleeps on my bed, but the vet advised me that it is a definite no no.
a dog feels superior if you let it sleep on the bed and can cause dominance problems
