To propose marriage? You can't do it indirectly.
Personally I would appreciate a direct question.. Something along the lines of sitting on the couch, a commercial comes on and-
Tim: Hey?
Me: Yea?
Tim: Do you want to marry me?
Me: Sure.
The weird thing, I actually consider that kind of directness more romantic than dancing around the subject.
But- every girls different, you know her well enough to want her. You probably already know how she'd like to be asked.

How about "Hey I was kind of thinking about marriage what do you think? or maybe a question like, how long do you think a person should wait before proposing marriage? How fortunate she is, I wish it was me who is going to get an indirect proposal. I hope for nothing but the best. signed born2damromantic

If you propse too inderectly they may not get the hint----
Why would you propose indirectly?
If you haven't been on a date yet maybe you should do that first....
At least hang out...

if you live near the beach...go to an advertising place and "_____, Will You Marry Me? - Love ____" on one of those advertisement flags those propeller planes pull..and then plan a beach day and have your girlfriend look at it..
