Yes, religion is one of the reasons why George Bush is wrongfully in office, because people voted for him based on his so-called religious beliefs.

Well that depends on what you mean.
If you mean does religion matter as far as people having different beliefs, then yes to some it does. It shouldn't, but some people for some reason can't stand that someone doesn't believe as they do.
If you mean does religion matter as far as having it, well then it depends on whether you believe in God or if you are a member of a particular religion. An atheist will probably say no. Someone who is a member of a religion will probably say yes. Someone who is agnostic could go either way. Someone who believes in a God but isn't associated with any religion could go either way depending on what they take you to mean by religion. If they think you mean belief in a God, they will probably say yes. If they think you mean being a member of a religion they will probably say no. It is all in what you believe.

yes religion matters, today, yesterday, tomorrow and even the day after that.
if you think it once mattered why would it be any different now? just because technology is better, health is good and people say it isn't worth their time to go to church doesn't change the fact that we are in great need of much more than just religion (going to church every Sunday and thinking certain things)
yes religion matters even in this day of age, but what matters so much more (and goes kinda hand in hand) is a personal RELATIONSHIP with the Creator of the entire, imaginable universe. and the truth is that's what he wants more than anything is for you and me to know him and let him know us.
ya want to know more... read Romans 8 of the Bible

More than religion, a relationship with God is just as important today as it ever was. You can see by the direction this country (and one might even argue, the world) is going, forsaking God, that things are taking a serious turn for the worse.

yes, very much so.
We find that Secularim and Atheism are not sufficient philosophies/ world-views to address the spiritual and psychological needs of human beings.
Another reason, is that there is increasing awareness among people of the evidence for the existence of God, and the truth of Christianity.
For scientific and intellectual evidence for the existence of God, see http://www.godsci.org/gs/godsci/evidence.htm
I used to be an atheist. Over a period of time however, I grew convinced of the existence of the Christian God, and ultimately committed my life to Christ (e.g., see http://www.godsci.org/gs/chri/testimony/seek.html ).
Cordially,
John

Religion matters to those that need religion.
Those like me who need God, stick with Him. The religious can go to their rituals at their churches.

My religion / philosophy is Scientific Pantheism and our saying is "Healthy mind, healthy body, healthy earth". So yes, it is necessary as far as I'm concerned...especially in this day and age.

Yes, it does. It divides people, turns them against one another, and creates irrational fears and problems of all sorts. Yes, it matters. Question is, why do we let it?
As the Muppets used to sing, "Why can't we be friends?"

Yes. Troubled times cause us to turn to our religion for solace. It's comforting to those in need, which we all are sooner or later.
