Example is Deuteronomy where God says that if we do not follow his laws our wives will be raped, we will suffer boils, disease, tumors, rashes and a cornucopia of other misfortunes. I regularly go against the laws of God and yet i live a profitable life full of joy and am happily married with a wife that has never been raped. If the claims the Bible makes are false then can't we assume that the bible is also false?

Well the bible is written by man, what can one expect?

Well, I believe that there are instances in the Bible that were specific for that person or persons in a particular situation. Just because the Lord said that there would be such a consequence to a particular action for them in that time doesn't necessarily mean that the same applies for you in 2006.
Also, I believe that there is a final destination where justice will be served as well so to say that boils, disease, tumors, rashes and a cornucopia of other misfortunes haven't happened on this side of eternity isn't necessarily saying much. On the other hand, heaven in the Bible is described as a place where there is no more sickness, disease, crying, death, or pain. It would be great if you and your family were there in the near future.

Since you are using Deuteronomy as your example than I want to say this:
2Timothy 3:16
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instructions in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. "

Basically what you are saying is that you are sinning on purpose because you know you are sinning and you are trying God. The bible speaks about people who are reprobates, who knowing the judgment of God, that they who commit the sins that you were talking about are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. I feel sorry for your soul, you are completely playing with forces you know nothing about. You can try Jesus all you want, but you will be ever learning but never coming to the knowledge of the word of God. You will never understand because that was written to the Israelites at that particular time and they had to go to the priest to sacrifice animals for their sins. Jesus is our high priest now, we don't need to do that any longer, so talking about an old testament verse doesnt make any sense.

Last but not least you might have a nice joyful life here, but your afterlife will be full of pain and hardache. Do you think that you can run from God? That God doesn't see the sins that you are committing the only person that you are fooling is yourself. God knows all, see's all, and in with us all .His eyes are everywhere beholding the evil and good. So the only thing that is false is you. I will continue to pray for you and your wife that you find God because truly you are worsier off than the ones that hardly don't even know anything about him. Hope your wife isn't half as blind as you.

Truth is a lot more complicated than simple literalness. Even fundamentalists tend to pick and choose which 'truths' they'll take from the Bible.

Personally, I think its value is in the conversation. Judaism keeps all of the old uncomfortable and 'out-dated' bits going but asks and re-asks how they apply to the current day or what we can learn from them about ourselves and the world. Think of it as a 3000 year long debate on how to best live ethically.

One of the Deuternomic if-thens is eerily apt -- if you serve other gods [read money, consumerism, a lot of pop culture, etc.] then there will be no rain and the land will not give its produce.... Lots of ways to interpret that, of course, but it is a decent description of global warming as a consequence of our current lifestyle.

I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water, though. There are some good "teachings" in the book... but, of course, these same teachings have been said before the bible... Socrates, Confucious (spelling), Buddha, etc... But, it definitely puts a cramp on the whole religious ideas about the Bible. But then, most of them only choose the things that support their ideas.

i don't believe in the Bible anyway!!!

but what the Quran says is if u do something against wat God says, u will be punished, either in life or on the day of justice

cuz we sometimes asked if Islam is the right religion, then why are ppl of other religions living happily and sometimes even better than us (like Bill Gates!!! :p) and the answer is that they will eventually be punished for their sins whether in life or afterlife but God is patient and gives ppl a chance to go back to him and ask for forgiveness but some ppl will never change

It's not really a book for being true or false. It's for being an inspiration. It's about the history of the Jewish people and the Christian sect that grew out of them. Read it for its poetry, its bits and snippets of wisdom ("To everything there is a season," for example), and don't try to take it literally. That way lies a particular madness called "fundamentalism," which ruins a person's ability to assess reality logically and rationally.

You're still doing that angry thing? I thought that I might have talked some sense into you. I was wrong.

You prove your ignorance again.

The Christ has come, and Mosaic Law is not something that we have to fulfill. If you are Jewish, good luck with the other supposed 615 laws on the books. But if you were in Christ, you are Justifed by Faith.

Not that you are interested. You're too busy being angry and ignorant.

Yes, the bible has been changed and amended by man.
and the Quran says this clearly:

"From those, too, who call themselves Christians, We did take a covenant, but they forgot a good part of the message that was sent them: so we estranged them, with enmity and hatred between the one and the other, to the day of judgment. And soon will Allah show them what it is they have done. 5:14

"Allah did aforetime take a covenant from the Children of Israel, and we appointed twelve captains among them. And Allah said: "I am with you: if ye (but) establish regular prayers, practise regular charity, believe in my apostles, honour and assist them, and loan to Allah a beautiful loan, verily I will wipe out from you your evils, and admit you to gardens with rivers flowing beneath; but if any of you, after this, resisteth faith, he hath truly wandered from the path or rectitude."
But because of their breach of their covenant, We cursed them, and made their hearts grow hard; they change the words from their (right) places and forget a good part of the message that was sent them, nor wilt thou cease to find them- barring a few - ever bent on (new) deceits: but forgive them, and overlook (their misdeeds): for Allah loveth those who are kind. 5:12,13

"If only they had stood fast by the Law, the Gospel, and all the revelation that was sent to them from their Lord, they would have enjoyed happiness from every side. There is from among them a party on the right course: but many of them follow a course that is evil. "
5:66

It's too bad you are happily married. I want to have sex with you right now. I am a daughter of Kain and your open acts against God turn me on. Please email me. How open minded is your wife? I can think of a few God-less acts the three of us could do right now.
