and then basically give people their citizenship. Does this point to the need to basically blow out the senate and start over? Have they gotten to the point where they're just incompetent or themselves become totally corrupt etc?

ush is begining toward a negotiated deal or some compromised version of House bill combining elements of the Senate Amensty propasal they so call the "Guest Worker Program". The House bill is tough but it does not even go far enough, and actually allows many aliens to return as citizens after they return home for a visit and some class on citizenship. The House bill is already weak Bush and the Senate's bill does not stand a chance in the House and they know it, the Country has never been more angry about an Issue. The Congress has to decide it before elections or their bill will really begin to fall apart.
Yes all of the corrupted coreced senators who willfully and wontonly pass legeslation that is both harmful and
destructive to the best interests of this nation and all of it's people. They should be lined up against the wall and...
The House has only a few Reps, it seems with any integrity on this issue, and I think it is only because they are under pressure from voters in their districts.
The Feds are really dropping the ball so many local governments are passing their own laws and enforcing tuff new immigrant policies like the mayor of Hazelton.
Hearings on Border security
Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), the Chairman of the International Relations Terrorism Subcommittee, held hearings on border vulnerabilities on July 5 in San Diego, California and on July 7 in Laredo, Texas. At the July 5 hearing, Rep. Royce warned about the possibility of terrorists crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. He said "Despite the increases in resources, more needs to be done. Our borders are very, very porous." Rep. Marsha Blackburn said "The very first action should be to secure the border and then we can talk about other issues.” Los Angeles County Sheriff Leroy Baca said that 26 percent of county jails are comprised of illegal aliens. He also said that while it costs the county $80 million each year to incarcerate illegal aliens, the federal government only provides $11 million to cover those costs. T.J. Bonner, the President of the National Border Patrol Council, said the Border Patrol catches only one out of every two or three illegal aliens crossing the southern border. U.S. University of Missouri-Kansas City professor Kris Kobach said the Senate-passed bill stripped state and local law enforcement of their inherent sovereign authority to enforce immigration laws. At the July 7 hearing, Sigifredo Gonzalez Jr., sheriff of Zapata County, Texas, said "For years we have seen individuals enter the country illegally." However, recently we feel that many of these persons are no longer entering the country to look for legitimate employment. We are now seeing that many of these persons are members of ruthless and violent gangs." He told the subcommittee that the number of illegal aliens apprehended crossing the border from places other than Mexico -- including countries on terrorist watch lists -- has more than quintupled in the past four years. "I dare to say that at any given time, daytime or nighttime, one can get on a boat and traverse back and forth between Texas and Mexico and not get caught," Gonzalez said. "If smugglers can bring in tons of marijuana and cocaine at one time and can smuggle 20-30 persons at one time, one can just imagine how easy it would be to bring in two to three terrorists or their weapons of mass destruction across the river and not be detected." Reynaldo Garza from the Laredo Sector Border Patrol also told the subcommittee that the incidents of violence at points of entry have increased dramatically in recent years.

7/5/06 Philidelphia Hearing:
Louis Barletta, the Mayor of Hazelton, Pennsylvania who gained attention after his city council passed an ordinance that denies permits to businesses that hire illegal aliens and fines landlords for knowingly renting to illegal aliens, was critical of S. 2611 saying “We are Small Town USA. People that live in Hazelton live there because they want their children to be able to play on the playgrounds. They don’t want to be terrified by some of the high-profile crimes that we’ve seen in our city, mainly by people who do not belong in the country.”
