A good Honda for under $1000 may be a stretch. That's the downside of them holding their value so well.

I don't know if you can feel really confident of any car for under $1000 running with NO problems for two years. My son got a Dodge Spirit for $1400 and spent less than $700 on repairs in three years. That includes muffler, tires, and work on the A/C. So I guess you could say it >ran< without problems for over two years, but it did require some minor repairs to remain inspected and comfortable in the summer.

He replaced it with a Saturn, which is supposed to be an excellent car, and had nothing but troubles with it. The leaky sunroof was driving him crazy, and he was tired of pouring money into it on repairs that didn't stay repaired.

So reputation isn't everything. When I was a teenager, my Dad and I cobbled two Dodge Darts together out of three wrecks. The car cost me $125, ran without a bit of trouble for two years, and I traded it in and got $500 for it. The only trouble I felt I had with it was girls my age could NOT see that car. Little old ladies would smile and wave.......

well yea, but you gotta get out there and find it! A certain name brand doesnt mean it will cost under a grand and run for 2 yrs...it depends on how well the car was taken care of

At that price, not very likely. In that price range you're looking at something 15 years old or older with many miles on it. By their nature, cars that old are very likely to have expensive problems, often cropping up with no notice or warning.
