I know you should keep them warm, in recovery position and stay witht them to make sure they don't choke on their own vomit, but what about if they are still semi-conscious?
Should you give them water and bread to encourage them to vomit more, or leave them be to get it out in their own good time?

give them as much water as they will drink and if they have not already thrown up try to make them throw up, one of the best ways to do this is having them stick their hand down their throat and pulling on their tonsuls, if they will eat bread that will absord some alcohol, but keep giving them water and making them throw up, don't let them sleep on their back

If this person just has a hangover from hell, leave to sleep off with plenty of water to re-hydrate, and when he/she becomes compus mentus they say a good fry up can do the trick. Maybe an Alka Seltzer to settle the tummy. Do you know if this person has fallen over drunk and is not concussed (you say semi-conscious), if no better by lunch time seek medical advice, just be sure there has been no serious bang to the head, and this person will almost definately say at some point to-day "NEVER AGAIN", wish I had a quid for every time I'd heard that one. Yep, watch them, leave them to sleep provide plenty of fluid and make a fry up later! If they didn't sound that bad I might have suggested a hair of the dog, but in this case I think not!! Good Luck.....

As you say, Just keep them in the recovery position and make sure they don't choke on their own vomit - Only give them water if anything, and plenty to help them rehydrate

Only give them water. The body will make them vomit without any help. When they are sober encourage them not to do this again.

How long ago was the alcohol consumption? You might give them IPECAC (spelling?) syrup to make then puke and avoid more alcohol being absorbed. Don't let them drink any more.
