I had someone set this up for me. It took him but a couple of minutes and I was happily downloading and sending. A screen automatically came up and I simple clicked on it and all my pictures came up. Something has changed as my screen simply gives me a pop-up that says I should check my connections. Gosh, I did everything I normally do, hook up to a port on the back of the computer, the other end into my camera and then turn the camera on. Always got the screen that I selected to download. I do not have any idea, put fresh batteries in, reinstalled the drivers, check every port on the computer to see if I was hooking up to the wrong one. I'm at the end of my abilities. I need to start from scratch. I have a Vivitar 3715 and a new Dell Dimension computer with as I said Windows 2000 XP. Help!

As I said above, I tried every available place the cable could fit into.

The popup message indcates that the computer cannot detect the camera. So something in the link between camera and computer is not making a good connection.

Things to try:

. Check camera. You did that. Only other thing I can think of: Does camera have to be in Review mode for download?

. Check USB port on camera. Is there any dirt in the port? Make sure it is all the way in.

. Check USB port on computer. Is there any dirt in the port? Make sure plug is all the way in. Try alternate port if available.

. Check cable. Have the ends been pinched or damaged?
Has cable been wound tightly or crimped in the wire? Can you borrow a different USB cable?

There are some troubleshooting scripts in Windows that may have other suggestions. Search on troubleshooting in Help. Otherwise you will need to find some expert help.

Good Luck

Yeah i can give you some guide lines,
1. Uninstall the driver given to you along with the camera.
2. Connect the cable between the camera and a usb port.switch on the camera in playback mode.
3. The xp detecs a new hardware,it gives you a message "New hardware found" or "unknown hardware", and it prompts for the installation of the driver.
4.That time you install the driver and hope fully you can download the images from the camera.

If the xp never detects the new harware then there could be a problem with the cable or the camera itself.
Try with a new cable then, drop into authorised service center of your camera, hope fully they can assist you.

You seem to have checked every thing, but did you check the cable from camera to PC?
