I believe that we should. The church is called his bride, and he is our bridegroom. Figuratively speaking, I believe that we should be found wearing our white wedding gown (Christ's righteousness) and should be living in a way that keeps us unstained by the world (the bad stuff) as we eagerly await for Him to return. We should spend time knowing God intimately through prayer and try to live purposefully on this earth utilizing our gifts and talents to serve Him and others. I believe that we should be praying just like you mentioned ..... for our President, elected officials, world leaders, other countries, etc. Maybe one day there will be a massive war all over...maybe not, but one thing is for sure....we will pass away some day with or without a war, and hopefully we will have made a difference being here.

I really thing we just need to get every Christian in the world to pray, whether or not Christ comes in two minutes or two hundred years.
before Christ walked on the water he spent hours (like 6 to 8 hours!) in prayer! can you imagine? i can't. but i can imagine walking on water either, but he did. and part of the reason was because he was prayed up before he ever stepped a toe onto the water. (he was God made flesh, but he was still flesh. He need a quiet time with God just as we do.) just think what we could do, and what God could do through us if only we were half as devoted to our quiet times as Christ was.
to answer your question 'yes' i think we should prepare for the coming of Christ, but i don't think that because of anything happening in this world. i think that because he told us to prepare for his coming again and since he didn't tell us when that would be we should always be prepared.

YES because if we are not ready and saved we will suffer the consequences so you better be ready before we get in trouble.Keep on praying if you have been going astray and the good Lord will help you recover. O.K

We should always be preparing, since we don't know when it will come. True christians don't start preparing just because they think the end is near, they are always prepered.
