I had lots of problems with my ears popping on planes. It's from the air pressure and altitude. I found a cure for it though. They are called EAR PLANES (small ear plugs that are inserted in to your ears before taking off and landing). You do not feel the pressure at all with these in. They are sold at most pharmacies.

they pop because of the change of the altitude and the air pressure as the altitude goes up, the air is pressing against your ear drums because the change happened so fast, the popping is a release of stress on the eardrum

The pressure in your inner ear is the same as on the ground.
The difference in elevation (pressure) causes the "pop"
Same thing if you are down in the valley and drive up into the mountains.

It is from a change in pressure.... the pressure outside and the pressure inside your head must be the same or it will resualt in a "squeeze" which normally occurs when you dont equallize, to equallize you would block your nose and like when you exale to try to push that air upwards... its all about pressure in the head and outside.

From the pressure. It is the same if you go 10m under the water.
