I've alway let my children decide when they want to go to bed. Both are in college now. My daughter graduates in December, my son is a sophomore and on the deans list.

Why force them? Let them make mistakes and learn from them. Guide them, give them knowledge, but you need to let them decide for themselves. If they fail, then you can come down on them but you need to give them a chance!

I had four kids, and they all had a set bedtime. School is important, so I made sure they did go to bed. Yes it is summer, and I still made my kids go to bed by eleven. But during school and depending on age, they went to bed by eight. All of them. My oldest was 16 when I said he could stay up untill ten. Weekends eleven, unless we treated it as a special night. Movie, McDonalds, popcorn and soda. But that was once in a while and only weekends. That's the way I feel about it. I told my kids as long as they lived under my roof, they would go by my rules. They all graduated from school. I told them that an education is the most important thing for them, because I didn't want them to have to go with out certain things in there lives. You have to know the world you live in, and education does help. Yes I know there is a difference between book smart and street smart, but I wanted them to do the best they could.

So I set rules, and they followed them. We had to growing up, so that is how I brought my kids up. We are the parents, not the kids, and not all kids to this, but a lot do. They just walk right over the parents and don't listen to anything they tell them. We have to remember to also teach them the manners in which we were brought up with, because I have seen a lot of kids today who have none what so ever, and don't even know what you are talking about. They look at you like your stupid. I'm not saying your aren't teaching your children manners, just saying I have seen alot who don't have them. They are very rude and disrespectful to the elderly adults.

But yes is won't hurt to give the kids a bedtime, time, but summer you can ease up, and then a couple weeks before school starts again, get them back into a routine.

Hope this helps you some. Have a nice night.

It all depends on the age and the family. My boys are supposed to be in bed by 8:30pm. If they are good they can read for 20 minutes. They are 6 and 8.

we all should sleep for 9 hours.
children more so because otherwise they get too difficult to handle during the day.
best time to get up is around sunrise - in Bangkok is 6.00 am.

So it is wise for children to got to bed at 8.00 by the time the bed stories finish and this and that they get sound sleep between 9.00 to 6.00

since its summer let them stay up as late as they want, but make sure you wake them up at a reasonable time. (ex-dont let them sleep till noon). after a couple of days they will be tired like no other and want to go to bed earlier. theyll be able to figure out a time to go to sleep and still wake up at a normal time
