What about people who can't afford to give 10% of their income? I've heard people say that those who can't afford to pay their tithes will still be punished.

You don't need money to help your community. Personally, I donate my blood, because it doesn't take much time out of my busy schedule and my blood type is needed. People can also do volunteer work. Most of the money from tithes don't go to those causes anyway.

He doesn't, most people are misinformed. Most of the rules of the old testament were done away with when Christ came, he replaced the mosaic law, only the principles remained. The law was originally for the Levites who were to work only in the temple and not do secular work or have any land, so the people who did work besides just the temple were to give the Levites 10% of their food and other needs otherwise they wouldn't have any. That was over with along time ago. I go to the kingdom hall and we don't take up collections at all, we do all our work on a volunteer basis, we all have regular jobs. what do you think about that?

This is more in response to your additional details...People who cannot afford to pay their tithes are not going to go to hell. That would be something a human would do to another human, not something God would do. I am not even all that sure that a tithe means you have to give 10% of your income total, from my studying ( I am a new christian so bear with me) with my boyfriend, who is also a minister, the tithe is supposed to be 10% of your increase. Kinda like, 10% of whatever extra you have. Giving a tithe to a church is thanking God for giving you a chance to earn that money. We pay the church back to say thanks to God for being there for us and for helping us. God likes to be thanked too, and not always just with money, with prayer as well. At my church, the tithe that people give pays the churches mortgage, the bills (electric, gas, telephone), and helps buy supplies for the soup kitchen it runs.

Alot of people ask that question. If God gave us life and every breath we take what does it hurt to pay 10% of what we earn. You may also realize that the money we give goes to programs like youth groups, which keep kids off the streets and out of trouble It also goes towards feeding and clothing the poor. Give unto God what is God's.

God doesn't need money...all he asks is for you to believe. money will do you no good in heaven. it's just a scam that the catholics and other christians created and people have bought into it for a long time because they are so obsessed with finding the exact way to heaven instead of concentrating on living a good life and realizing that God forgives our mistakes.

thank you for your opinion.
Those who tithed in the OT were actually paying the priesthood who had no lands given them for an inheritance.
Those who pay tithe in today's churches pay for the upkeep of the building and for charities and ministries that the church performs.

God per se, does not need money, but His work on earth here does, because that is what this world works on....people (the needy) need food, clothes, etc...A lot of pastors do not get paid to do the Lord's work, (AND YES I REALIZE SOME ARE HYPOCRITES) But some are REAL and need to make a living to live and support their families. Give to God's work, but choose wisely....that's is what I try to do....

Think about it. Everyday God blesses you, you would not be working if it was not for him. God does not need the money, but the money goes towards the church and halping those less fortunate then yourself. We owe it to those who have less then us...in Gods eyes we are all family. I am not that strong in church, but I listen, and I understand.

God doesn't need our money, or any money for that matter. What he wants is for you to make him first in everything you do. He also states that if you give of your first fruits to God, then He will make sure your needs, including financial, are met.
