My mother once cooked ground horse meat (totally serious) and served it as hamburger. We said it doesn't taste like hamburger, and she finally admitted the truth. Yecch! Never trusted her to make food after that.

On a bus trip with a bunch of hippies going to Northern CA, macrobiotic , unrecognizable, thick, viscous dark green soup with tofu, some home made california rolls (if you arent a sushi chef, dont try these at home!) The best and only palatable part of the meal was the Marie Callendars peach pie we picked up at one of the stops. And they wouldnt share their weed either, harumph.

the worst was a fry up travelling the outback but some of the strangest Ive eaten were snake crocodile and kangaroo

In russia, I was served cold fish borsche, and it was like eating vomit. Except more disgusting.
