The race card gets thrown around in here so many times, it's gotten worn out, and we need a new one. What's the Real Deal, here?

It is not the race. It's the behavior that is common for that race. You know when they start that "racist" calling, you have won the debate.

It's not race. It gets thrown out whenever someone can use it to make people fear opposing them.

If I went into a different country, I would have to follow their laws, including getting into their country. That is the cold hard truth. Immigrants that come here illegally take the jobs that "no one else wants" because that is all they can get. If they weren't here, the wage may increase, and someone would be willing to take the job.

Their argument is that they do good for our economy. How? So they do a job for minimal pay. Most of the time, that money is getting sent out of the country to their families back in their country of origin, and not back into our economy. And they don't pay taxes on the money they are making and on any housing. How is this benefiting our economy?

Pat Riley describes a type of mentality called "the disease of me". See, its theory is that someone thinks they are 80 % of the value, when in actuality, they are 20 %. Okay, if all illegals stopped working, things would be tough. But you know what? We'd be okay. The country would not ceise to exist. We would go on, and we would be able to cover. No one is irreplaceable. Just like in the corporate world.

Just look at Yahoo answers and take a gander at the way in which some of the participants will throw slurs out at any given opportunity. Thinly veiled racism and cultural disdain is evident, and no amount of pussyfooting or humour will disguise the fact that many who partake in the debate are infused with a certain degree of racism.

I don't think it's racism, it's more about money. American taxpayers a tired of footing the bill for what only makes sense for the wealthy and the employer. Since there are still more ordinary Americans than rich Americans who benefit from illegal slave labor, this will truly show who is in charge of the government . Will it be the will of the people or the will of the wealthy?

This isn't a question of race... it's a matter of doing things the right way, versus totally ignoring the laws of our country.
Immigrants who enter the USA the legitimate way do have a few obstacles to leap over, but in the end it's worth it. Those others who elect to enter illegally and still want to enjoy the same benefits are missing the point.
Do it the right way and they're welcome like all of the others.
No amnesty though... that makes a mockery of the efforts of those who did recognize and respect our laws.

I think it is the media that has portrayed this as a racist issue. How can it be racist if it is against "ILLEGAL Immigrants". They never said they were going to deport only Mexicans, or Indians, or whoever else has made it to our boarders. I don't know how many of your readers remember the Cambodian boat people. They overloaded makeshift boats and came to our shores in droves. If my memory serves we fed them until they were healthy and sent them right back to their country. No one cried racism then. Why now?

Will the real racists please stand up, or are you afraid of being deported?
They always attack when they cannot defend their ridiculous arguments, they have no facts that support their positions.
I am very familiar with this tactic by now, it is getting so old. They use it to look like victims when they are criminals, they learned well from commies and jews in the media.

A lot of people are using the immigration debate as an excuse to "release" their inner prejudices.

It is unfortunate, because the fallout from this is going to be devestating if attitudes don't change.

This is a good question. I usually tend to think race is too often given as an explanation, but I'm struggling to find a better one here. Perhaps it's simply a lack of sympathy. I don't know.

Illegals and their supporters do know that it is not about racism. They just glom onto that because they know they are grasping at straws as far as any logic goes for supporting illegal immigration. Even the poster above who asks if people aren't aware of the much larger number of Asian immigrants we are getting these days - she obviously hasn't even grasped the difference between legal and illegal immigrants. She just calls them "Asian immigrants." Well, likely the bulk of them are "legal" immigrants and, no, we don't have issue with "legal" immigrants!

NOTE: I did NOT say ANYTHING here about MEXICANS! I feel equally against ALL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS and I also feel equally supportive of ALL LEGAL IMMIGRANTS!

Mexicans are certainly not a race. But, brown skinned people who do not speakEnglish, are subject to a range of discriminations which can be collectively thought of as 'racism.'
