For the last two months in my life I have been going through problems with my job and money...although I have been getting paid I have been struggling to pay my bills. I stopped giving my tithes, because I really didn't feel like I had enough in my check to share...Now it seems like all my momey has been cut off. I know its a wake up call from God. I just don't know how to handle it or what to do? I feel bad and I really need a "breakthrough". What do you think?

I don't know why people are asking am I telling the "whole story", like I am hiding something. Its an honest question and I am looking for an honest answer, not someone judging me or my beliefs. The last 2 months I haven't been giving my tithes, but God kept making a way out of no way. I know he will do it again, but I feel like my favor has been cut off. Like some doors he opened for me has been closed. I know God is a God of Mercy and He will forgive me, but my emotions are all out of wack right now.

Also. When I say I don't know what to do it does not mean I don't know if I should pay my tithes or not I know that. I am saying I dont know what to do right now.

The bible says in Malachi that you will be cursed with a curse if you rob God. Robbing God is not paying your tithes. Your financial troubles may be a direct result of not paying your tithes. With your next check I would advise that you skip one bill to pay your tithes and watch how God will provide for your. I am a witness to how it really works. The reason why you feel bad is because the Lord is putting it on your heart to do the right thing.

I haven't read any of the other answers, but based on personal experience with not paying tithing or waiting to pay tithing, I would say yes. While God does not NEED your money, it is a commandment. The spirit of the commandment remains true - you learn more by giving than recieving. When you do what God commands He blesses you. There's always enough money to pay the bills when I pay tithing first. One of God's promises is that when you pay your tithing He will open the windows of heaven and pour out blessings upon you too numerous to count.
If you literally have $0.00 coming in, then tithe in kind. For example, tithe your time. Ask your Bishop, Pastor or Religous Leader for a service project or a way you can tithe "in kind" as opposed to money. Tithing is 10% of ones increase, so if you have any money coming in you should tithe it first.
Hope this helps.

I think you have been conditioned to believe that God requires tithes of you. You have been conditioned to believe that if you do not pay them, bad things will happen and your financial troubles will become worse.
Would it suprise you if I said that NONE of your financial problems are the result of you paying or not paying your church a percentage of your income? Would it suprise you if I told you that MOST of your financial problems are due to decisions you made months ago that you didn't think were very important, but turned out to be? Would it suprise you if I said that when you find out how to recover from this financial slump, it will have little to nothing to do with how much money you give your church.
God doesn't require financial support. The gifts you give the church where you worship are up to you. When you become the poor that the church should be helping out, you aren't required to continue supporting it.
God is bigger and better than all that. You know and I know that when things get back to normal, you will continue to give all that you can afford to give. I know god knows your heart.
Try giving some additional time when you cannot afford to give money. Try spending some time helping the homeless, the helpless, and the infirmed. We often get more of a blessing from helping others than by giving cash to a preacher.
When you are having a hard time, it makes matters worse when you feel guilty for not being able to give as much as you are used to. God needs the money less than the preacher that has taught you that you need to support the home he has that is bigger than yours and in a better neighborhood.... or the car he drives that is nicer than yours... or the clothes he and his wife wears that are better than yours... you get the idea?
Give what you can... and when money isn't available, give of yourself. There are people out there in worse shape than you... help them. What you do comes back to you... pushed down, shaken together... and running over.
When you can't afford to give money, give of yourself. God sees a heart, not a dollar amount.
Einsteinetta: Your answer is almost evil. When god would offer comfort, you only offer condemnation. When god would offer solutions, you just want to spread guilt. Your belief that not paying tithes is robbing god is grotesque. What ever Malechi said to the people of Isreal about supporting their corrupt priesthood has nothing to do with modern christianity. Tithing is not a new testament doctrine. When you, ms. Einsteinette, have sold all you own, gave it all away and devote your life to serving the poor, then you can tell this person the things you have said. Until the time you do those things, you need to mind your own business and let god deal with getting the money he needs. He, being God, would be much better at it, than we are. Besides, wouldn't HIS income increase as ours does ? If he wants more money, he should make sure his people are making more money. If they are not, then obviously he didn't need more from them. I can't believe how insensitive your answer was. You must be pentecostal, apostolic, or jehovah's witness. No other denominations would create such an unfeeling, irrational set of ideals.

Malachi 3:10 says when a man doesn't pay tithe, he is robbing God.
If you robbed the government by not paying taxes because you 'felt you couldn't afford' to pay them, what would you be expected to do?
If you robbed a fellow human being because you 'couldn't afford not to' what would you have to do?
And you're asking what to do?
Just in case you really don't know: Stop robbing God. Trust Him like He says to. Ask His forgiveness for you lack of faith. Pay your back tithe and move on.
And if you claim to be a Christian, why are you living as if there are no God?
Either you belong to Him or you don't. Either He will take care of you or He won't. Make up your mind. Either serve Him or don't.
If you want a glass of cool water and I give you 7 ounces of cool water and 1 ounce of strychnine, is it a glass of water? OK, so get off the fence. Either you're a Christian and you trust God, or you're not and you don't.

God doesnt hit you because he wants to Punish you Bro, but it reminds me of a lil story...
A man in his new car got hit buy a Huge Brick on his way while driving, he stopped the car n drove back to see who it was.. It was an old boy by the road with tears in his eyes, he said his mom is so sick and needs to be taken to the Doc, and that he tried to get this mans attention all he could by wavings, shouting and screaming and finally he had to throw a brick...
So, its not that God punishes you for not paying the tithe but he is getting your attention... and When you Pay tithe you witness to the angels that you are a Believer and a Follower and that you want to do Good.. Angels play a major role in our salvation, They will ask God why He blesses you so much when you choose not to follow him by not paying the tithe... its a huge deep study, but no matter how hard things Get.. God says.."Test me" pay the tithe and see if i Bless you or Not. :)

God is not going to "cut you off" because you have not been able to tithe.
You are simply going through a bad spell - we all have done so at some point in our lives, and instead of trying to see if he is to blame, you need to turn to him and ask for help.
He'll be there with you, and before you know it you should be back on your feet again.
Of course, this is assuming that you have told us everything about your situation in your question. If there is more to your problem you are not saying, make yourself right with God, and I am sure he'll take care of you.

Always give your first fruits to God (praying first thing in the morning, saying grace when you eat, titheing first...etc.). Never think of titheing as a bill or payment. Always give God your FIRST in everything. When you get your check tithe on it first before doing anything else with it and God will bless you. God knows when you are in need and will supply them. In your hard times He always remember those times that you gave your firsts to Him.

Yep. That's what happened to me when I started skimming off my tithe years back. I learned. the Bible says in Proverbs 3:10, to give God the first of all your income. I tithe off of gross income. But what's happening to you and all who are robbing God is this, check out Malachi 3:8-10. God wants to bless you, but He can't when He's being robbed. Do what you know is right, God will supernaturally provide--remember to have some faith!--and He will " meet all your needs according to His riches and glory in Christ Jesus."

I don't believe in the "pay to get" philosophy. If you had given and not had a cheerful heart about it, that would have been the same thing. Don't think you are being punished now. You will find a way through this and your faith will be stronger. Take joy in that. Give what you can with a cheerful heart. But always remember to give God his thanks. You can find other way to serve. Get more involved in a ministry. What he really wants is your heart not your money.
