Do you think it would upset the family more to have it returned or would you think "bonus-they'd want me to keep it"

This is hypothetical by the way!

I never loan anything out that I would hate to lose. if I loaned it to you I would never expected back, so if I died, just keep the damn thing.

Just keep it safe until the unlikely event that somebody asks for it. Something similar happend to me. The hospital returned a pen. It was just a cheap pen and I was devastated beacuse it had associations that I'm sure the hospital could never have imagined. The less emotional hurdles the better.

I would have to decide based on the item and person. If I believed that the item would have significance to the family, I would give it to them. If it had significance for me I would keep it. Unfortunately, when someone dies the people closest to them can have some ugly battles over their belongings. I have been a witness to this and it is very sad.

I think it wouldn't matter as much if it were something trivial. I would probably keep it just because the parents of the person who died (or boyfriend, girlfriend, whoever) probably wouldn't have much use for it.

However, if it were something big, or if it were money, I would at least say something, and see if they wanted it back.

I would return the item in question back to the family because that person lent it to you in good faith and it could mean some thing to a family member

I would ask the next of kin if they would like the item returned, if not, then I would keep it. If it's something trivial, I don't see them having an objection with you keeping it.

Your sense of morality, virtue, and integrity should give you the correct course of action!

If something does not belong to you, it is not yours to keep. The situation of the owner is not a consideration.

The only question to be answered is, is it yours or not, does it belong to you or not, did you buy it, was it a gift?

You really do not need anyone to tell you what is the correct thing to do!

No. I think it should be returned to the family. (and it's a way of saying goodbye to your friend)

no. It was a loan, and it is more honorable to return it to the family.

i would keep it unless the family wanted it. I would at least keep it until they were over thier greiving, and then give it to them months, even years later.
