Should I immediately replace his crib with a toddler bed?
Or can it wait?

go with the toddler bed, but be warned he won't stay in that either.
my daughter was putting her doll house by her bed everynight i thought she just like it cuz it was new and wanted it near but after a while she figured out that if she put the curtian in her bed she could climb up that and then down her doll house. if they want out the well find away.

My twin girls did this too. We didnt think they were ready for toddler beds, we were afraid they would wander at night, and were too little to be safe.

I found, on Ebay and an internet search, something called a crib tent. Its mesh, and very tall, like a tent on the crib. You install it under the mattress and it rises above the top of the crib, and you zip it up from the outside. It stops the climbing, keeps toys in, and you dont have to worry about feet getting stuck in the bars of the crib either. It worked for my girls about 6 months, until one of them figured out how to pull it in. NOT an easy thing to do! They are safe, and even double as mosquito neats, should you camp or anything like that.

Good Luck!!

The toddler bed sounds like a good idea. It still depends on how well developed he is in other ways. You might even be able to go to a 'youth bed' that is low to the ground, and put the mattress from the crib next to it as a safeguard.

Now, if his bedroom is on an upper floor, and he can gain access to a stairwell, you'll have to take that into consideration, and take appropriate precautions regarding the stairs.

I'd go with a toddler bed. He could hurt himself climbing up and down on the crib. My daughter went into a toddler bed around that age, but it was because she fell through her crib, she was too heavy for it.

I would go to a toddler bed. Because you will never keep him in the crib now anyway so you might as well make it less work and safer for your son to get out of bed.

they have a mesh dome thing you can attach to the top of the crib. it zips open from the outside..is fire retardent, and is all teeny holes, so plenty of fresh air. i would go this route since a lot of kids move to those little beds too soon. i had a neighbor whose 2 year old run across a busy street early morning, by getting up early and running out the front door. i'd say wait for the bed until they comprehend a bit more. but definitely get the thing for the top for safety. i've also seen a child at the playground with both arms in casts from falling out of her crib. so i understand the desire to move them to a bed..but just realize how much harder it is to keep them in a bed..and be prepared for some sleepless nights as she keeps getting up..good luck! :-)

Yeah that would be a good idea. You do not want him falling on his head or getting hurt in the process. Do something soon. Put him on the floor if you cannot afford a bed on a little pad. Just keep the little man safe. Make sure to baby proof the house extra well he will be everywhere now.

He may need a gard rail on his bed so he does not fall out. It will be fun for him to get his big boy bed. Just make sure whatever you do is safe.

He's definately being a boy and that's GREAT. Best to get rid of the crib or he may injure himself however. If you can't afford a bed for him right now just use his crib mattress on the floor.
