I'm guessing at this, but it is educated guessing. I think the answer is C) Thoreau. It seems like the logical answer, because he believes in individual thinking and basing your beliefs on your experiences.
I also think that D) is the wrong answer, because the question is about their beliefs not their life experiences.

My answer is D. They both had name changes and she worked at a mission of the same name Kingdom of Matthias. They both went through spiritual revelations and both were motivated based on faith in a Christian god.
I agree with Frog I'm wrong, C was my first instinct but I trip up over religious zeal.
LoL at educated guessing only room for one collage degree in this question.
