Maybe they are too ignorant to know that countries like China and India are doing the jobs that americans USED to do 10 yrs. ago. For example, dialing customer service numbers to american companies from the U.S. and someone awnsers the phone in India speaking english. Hard to understand ignorance. China, look behind every plastic object around you. Mexico, llok at you beautiful lawns, and great looking americans from afordable fruits and vegetables.

Some of the people who say that may also be racists, but mostly they're just ignorant, or else downright stupid. A few lawn care people might actually be right, by your own admission. Those same people DO also complain about how all the good jobs are getting 'shipped' to India and China. I'm sure there are people in Japan complaining about the same sort of thing, since a lot of stuff that USED to be made in japan is also now made in China. I don't know how you pack up a job, and ship it anywhere.

It's called a global economy. I wonder if bureaucrats in Mexico are complaining about Americans taking away THEIR jobs ???

Brown Patriot; sorry, I'm sure plenty of those people never watch Fox news. They hear the same bullcrap on all the 'big' channels, as well.

I could care less about the jobs. If that was all the illegal immigrants did, that would be fine. But they come here, take jobs illegally with NO benefits, and then use our tax dollars when they get sick, and our systems, and things that I support by paying my taxes. They usually are paid "under the table", so they do not pay taxes on the money they get and usually send out of the country.

In nature, those are parasites - use the host body for life support.

I have not a problem with where people come from or what they do when they are here. I just think they should do it through the system. If the system doesn't work for them, then do something about that. Don't come here illegally and then cry when the people that are here legally (whether born here or here through legal course) get upset about it. If they want to have the good from our country, then they should do it like everyone else.

If that makes me sound like a horrible person, so be it. But I don't get the thing about going to another country illegally and then getting upset when the people in that country react so badly. If you don't like it, you obviously know where the door is. . .

It's not only the "racist" americans that are saying that Illegal Mexicans are taking their jobs away... and more over that's not the only thing they're saying. There have been so many marches for "Illegal Rights" that frankly I am getting sick of it. As far as many Americans are concerned, you don't have any rights in this country until you are a tax-paying (not just sales tax!), voting citizen.

It's not only Illegal Mexicans, but because the highest influx of illegal aliens come from Mexico, they're an easy target. Let's put it this way: many illegals work for less than the minimum wage. They're illegal, so there's no paperwork for the companies to file for the IRS, no payroll records required, and it's cheaper labor for the employer. Now if an American citizen wants that job, is the employer going to want to get rid of the cheaper help? Probably not.

Illegal aliens come here looking for a better life... and we have millions of Americans who are barely able to scrape by on what income they can come up with. People living off of welfare and social security, and even the streets scrounging for what little help and food there is. For some this is a choice, for others it's the card they were dealt and they have to live with it until they can get back on their feet. Thousands die yearly from mal-nutrition, starvation, the weather, and the drugs that they use to escape their sad reality. The American economy can barely support its own people, let alone those that come here in hopes for a better life. I'm sure Mexicans would feel the same way if situations were reversed.

The out-sourcing of labor to other countries like India IS a big issue for Americans as well. I don't know where you have been for the last ten years, but these two subjects have been high on the list of economical complaints in the country... and we haven't forgotten about it. Recently, with the rise of the press for "Illegal Rights," the subject has been put on the back burner while we focus on the debate and creation of new laws.

I for one would like to see the immigration and illegal alien laws become tougher in this country. And that's not because I'm a racist, it's because I'm an American.

---

By-the-by: For those of you accusing us so-called "rich" Americans of being too proud, too lazy, or just plain unwilling to do the work that illegal Mexicans, and any other illegal, will do, you've got it totally wrong. Have you all become so dis-illusioned by your own prejudices that you fail to see the truth? For every job that an illegal takes, there are American citizens working the same job. There may be more, there may be less, but there are no jobs that are the sole responsibility of illegals.

I have worked 2 full-time jobs at a time for a period of 3 years - just to make ends meet. My boyfriend works up to 60 hour work-weeks and goes to school on top of it. A good friend of mine also works up to 60 hour work-weeks and has also taken a second job from time to time. Man, we are just regular American couch potatoes, aren't we?!?

This country was built on the backs of immigrants, whether legal or illegal. We are all the descendants of immigrants with exception to our Native Americans. That doesn't mean that half the population of the world should come live here. Time to hang the "Closed" sign on the Statue of Liberty because we have enough tired, poor, huddled and homeless masses.

You know what? The tomatoes and strawberries grow on land here, not in India or China, so those in India and China can't pick them.

Houses for people here likewise have to be built here.

Those are jobs people legally here used to have.

You are the one who brought up Mexico (which is a nation, and if it were a race would be more white than anything). I don't care where they are from. I am against illegal immigration.

You are not racist if you believe your job was taken by someone else.Unless you do hate those people because of their race. For one thing most people don't realize the elite who run Mexico are buddies with the elite here and work together to exploit the Mexicans and US poor and middle class. The trade agreements made that possible and immigration also puts pressure on wages here which isn't suppose to happen but the Bush administration doesn't enfore laws that forbid corporation from doing that.

They are probably not racists, so do not confuse the issue by throwing out epithets. My father is black, and he thinks that immigrants from poor countries (mostly south of the border) depress the wages of lower-class Americans. The obsession with jobs and immigration is even greater in Europe, where unemployment is twice as high as in the US.

The notion that immigrants steal jobs is so common that economists have a name for it, the "Lump of Labor" fallacy. This is the idea that there is a fixed amount of work to be done, and if you work more, there will be less work and therefore less money for me. The opposite is true: there is an infinite amount of work to be done, and we should welcome law-abiding immigrants who come to improve our country instead of their own. If there were really a fixed amount of work to be done, unemployment should be rising, but in the US it remains very low.

There is a real question about whether poor immigrants depress US wages. The answer to that seems to be yes, but not by very much, and the benefits greatly outweigh the negatives. Poor people buy tomatoes too.

I just bought a new TV Projector on e-Bay. It was Chinese and cost me AU$600 from their Australian distributor. Its a brilliant piece of equipment. The Japanese and American equivalents cost up to AU$3000. I could buy 5 of the Chinese units for the price of 1 American ones. Why would I not buy the Chinese one. There goes American jobs. China does not need nukes to overtake America, they will do it with prices. The Mexican problem is no problem compared to this. The Mexicans don't hurt your exports, China does

As different commenters have made sparkling, there is no activity at modern done by using undocumented immigrants that isn't any longer also done by using voters and criminal voters. major employers raided by using ICE have had 1000's of applicants line to fill those vacancies. This week the NYT said on ICE's enforcement shift from rounding up workers in raids to checking employment papers in organization workplaces and flagging SSNs that do not tournament federal information. those "silent raids," as they're being talked about as, are compelling employers to fireside those with fake or stolen SSNs. The good judgment in the back of ICE's new mind-set is to get US employers to envision worker documents as a count number of route before hiring. Reagan's 1986 amnesty changed into meant to be a one-time deal, yet now we are dealing with the opportunity of a 2d amnesty. Polls coach that individuals will settle for immigration reform that includes amnesty as long as there are sensible regulation enforcement innovations put in position to shrink destiny undocumented immigration. the recent ICE silent raids look operating because they placed duty onto the corporation to uphold the regulation, because it is going to probably be. there is no activity that an American citizen or criminal immigrant received't income this lengthy because the activity will pay a residing salary and respects exertions and occupational safe practices rules.

They're just jealous the Mexicans are out performing them in the workplace.

As for the farm work, I live on a 100 acre farm. Trying to find American help these days is hard. Not enough money for the older people and too hard of work for the teenagers.
