does this throw doult that gods exists. If God give us free will and it has been known that mental illness can effect the way the person acts and sometimes against there nature, etc etc then that is not free will therefore where must be a force more powerfull than God stopping free will.

I have worked closely with mentally ill and mentally retarded folks, and I can tell you right now, their thoughts and actions are not always their choice. I loved those people from the bottom of my heart, and forgave them for what ever they have done negatively. Mentally ill sometimes hear voices, and unfortunately they think they are supposed to do what that voice tells them to do. They can't help it....there is a driving force inside of them! But be they mentally ill, or retarded, their actions could be the result of a psycho-tropic drug, brain damage from either while in the womb, or some physical tragedy. No one has ever been able to actually know what that very inner core of their minds are really like, because they lack that ability due to brain damage, or the most horendous events sometime in their lives. I always told my co-workers to be very kind to these people, they could be angels unaware to us, meaning they could be a test of faith and mercy sent by God. I would bet every last penny I have, that those people, ill or retarded already have reservations in Heaven! When I look at mental illness, I am not talking about people like Scott Peterson, or Ted Bundy, they are criminally insane, meaning they have no consience for their deeds. The mental illness I am referring to is those that have suffered severe abuse, both physically and mentally, and they basically "shut down" While caring for these people, I couldn't help but to observe how they tried to imitate what a mentally healthy person does. You can see it in their eyes. They want to so bad, but can't. So in essence, I believe God looks down on them with mercy! You wouldn't believe the physical abuse these poor unpriviledged folks must endure.

It depends on the illness. Mental illness are all different. Being mentaly ill does not give the person the right to commit a crime. A person who is having hallucinatons may not know what they are doing or be so confused. I would say in that case there is no thought of free will. There is something called a sociopath and they are not mentally ill they just lack feeling for others. They are just evil. Other people have other mental illness and it has been found that they are much more likely to be victums of crimes that perpetrators. The media just likes to make a big deal of the fact that people are mentally ill when they commit crimes. The like to make people out to be demons when in fact they are not. More people who are not mentally ill commit crimes.

If you want to understand mentall illness more read about it on this site. They help people understand. Remember god loves all people even if you have an mental illness. He will still love you.

The fact that some people have a mental illness has nothing to do with whether or not God exists. Your question is full of errors in logic. You can't say that God gives people free will, some people have less free will than others, therefore, maybe there is no God.

The Jewish people of Jesus day thought that illness was the result of sin. One day when Jesus was near a man who had been blind from birth, He was asked, "Who sinned, this man or his parents?". Jesus replied, "Neither this man sinned nor his parents. This man was born blind to give glory to God" An then,
Jesus healed the blind man.

The fact that there is sickness in the world does not mean that there is someone or some force more powerful than God. It also does not mean that that God does not love us. The fact is that the human brain is too little and puny to be able to understand
all of God's plans and reasons for doing things. What we can be sure of is that whatever He does He does out of love.

In the beginning was God. Now, God's nature is love. Love must have someone to love and wants to be loved in return. God created us so that He could love us and that we could love Him in return. The nature of love is that it must be a free choice. If God had created us so that we had to love Him, then it wouldn't be love. God gave us freewill so that we could choose to love Him.

Many people, sadly, choose to use their freewill to disobey God
and to do things that hurt ourselves and hurt others. They think that God gave us freewill because He wants us to do whatever we want. What rubbish!

Many people think that there is no God. Anyone that can think that has been brainwashed by the hypothesis of evolution. For someone to know science and think that everything in all it's complexity and interdependence came about by a series of accidents over millions of years needs to have his head examined. The mathematical probabiliy of that is so close to zero
that in essense, it is zero. There is a greater probability that the tooth fairy exists than that the universe came about by accident.

I hope that answers your very important question.

My dad is bipolar which causes paranoia, and hypomania.

When off the meds, he has no control of his thoughts, and is a different person. You can see it in his eyes.

When on the meds he lives a perfectly normal life, and you can't tell he was ever crazy. It's strange how the human mind works.

Oh and tom cruise is a complete idiot when he makes fun of psychiatry with that scientology BS. I'll take my da off the meds and drop him off at tomkats house and he'll change his tune real quick.

Let him try a personality (or whatever) test on a guy who thinks that he's being investigated by secret government organization
(that only he has ever heard of)

Free will is something christians created to say that their god gave us a choice to be a part of their church(and give up 10%of their income) and live in heaven, with crappy elevator music and all the aborted babies or we can decide not follow his rules and burn in eternal hell fire(but cool as music)

Personally I think it's all a crock of s***.

God is just pretend.

An interesting question, but I don't think it refutes the existence of free will. It should be assumed that free will can only exist in the mind of someone who has the mental capability to understand right from wrong and the consequences of their actions. People who are in comas, have suffered severe brain trauma, or who have lost contact with reality do not fit into this category.

wouldnt you say that if a God is all powerful (which I belive he is) then he can determine that a mentally ill person with limited mental capacity is using their free will to the best of their abilities??????

Because a young child doesnt understand what free will is...would he also look down his nose at them for not finding out a way to get to church every sunday on their own if their parents didnt go?

God knows what you are capable of...as limited as it may be, and uses that as a factor of judgement of wheather or not you are making the best of what he has givin you.

I assume that you are not "retarded" in any mental capacity way so it will be tuffer to understand as even science has not been able to help that situation in any substancial way.

people are born mentally ill, some with birth defects. family genetics cause some problems and then there is alcohol and drug use that can cause problems as well.you use free will to believe that there is a God that we will only meet in heaven when we die. it is your free will to have faith in his love and Jesus Christ.religion has nothing to do with birth defects or mental illness. that is caused by humans and their genetic backgrounds.

Have you read your Bible lately? If you have and payed attention to most of the stories in it you will see that this planet is basically a battleground for the war between God and Satan. I feel that the people that you are referring to represent that constant battle.

Mental illnesses are brought about because some people need to have them to learn to perfect our souls for God..........God had no clue about any of the things human beings go through, and needed some to volunteer their services to find out what it was all about............That's all........
