I tried to contact churches in my area, but they can't help me with this problem either, I'm tried of calling places just to be told sorry we can't help you.

put out canisters around town with thier name and what illness he has, have a local bbq, if you work or go to church take donations there, get permission from some stores for an hour or two to get donations

In that case you may have to raise the funds on your own. As tacky as it may sound, busking and doing odd jobs for people can be a good source of quick cash.

For example, here in Perth, Australia, I remember there was a guy from Jamaica whose Mum was really ill and he needed to fly back immediately. So what he did was set a table and two chairs in one of the main malls, and challenged people to games of chess- with a sign saying why he was doing it. He made quite a bit from donations of passers-by and also a small "losing fee" of $1. And the games were usually 3 to 4 minutes so they were quite fast.

Just a suggestion.
