Click the Start button.
Click Run.
In the Open field type regedit and click OK.
Once you are in the Registry Editor, navigate your way to the following folders:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Once you are there, right-click the right side of the screen.
Select New and click DWORD Value.
Name it "NoNetHood" (without quotes).
Now, double click on it and in the Value section type "1" (without quotes).
Click OK.
Now, exit and restart your computer.

Settings
Control Panel
Display
Desktop
Tab "Customize Desktop"
Uncheck Network Neighborhood

right click ur desktop, properties, then on desktop tab there is a customize deskop button, do it there. this is in windows xp, but should be the same or if not very similar.

Right Click, Delete or just click it once so it's highlighted and hit the delete key
