I think Matthew Chapter 5 and start at verse 21 will be helpful to you and also 1st John Chapter 3 and verse 15. EDIT 1st John Chapter 4 and verse 20 is exact to the point you were looking for.

These are examples of people who failed to please God because they literaly hated their brother.
Like Esau hated Jacob Gen 27
Like the brothers of Joseph Gen 37
Joseph didn't hate His brothers Gen 50
Absalom hated Amnon 2 Sam 13
In exagration to show the great love we should have for God, by comparison it is as though we hate our own families. Yet here Jesus is speaking of great love rather than of hate.
Without reservation, we must be willing to commit ourselves to Jesus.
Yet remember, it is not what we have done but what Jesus has done that makes us righteous. We are already accepted and loved by Him. We need to offer the same to those around us in the likeness of Christ.
Luke 14: 26. "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.
27. "And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
If we truely love Jesus it will show in our lives profoundly. We will give ourselves to Him and He will change us into a new creature and teach us to obey Him in every respect. See Romans 12:1-2
1 John 2. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
3. Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.
4. He who says, "I know Him,'' and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.
6. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
...
Jesus commanded us to love one another. If we fail to love others then we dont see people through His eyes. We see ourself as better than we see others. Thus the Spirit of God is not in us. We are not obedient or under the guidance of God.
9. He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now.
10. He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.
11. But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
We are to see people through the eyes of Jesus. No we dont always like what they do or say but we can love them even as God loves them. We need to view life as God wants us to rather than the way the world views life.

No not necessary. his brother could have done something to him to make him feel that way. So ask him about it.
