No but it helps when the s**t hits the fan with customers if you have one or two large bartenders behind the bar. I tended for several years and we never had a problem come over the bar, came close once or twice but never made it and always helped to look out for the petite ladies on both sides of the bar ;)
BTW I am 6'2" and 250 pounds

it really depends on the skills of the bartender not on the physical characteristics. although some prefer good looking guys for pr reasons.

no, you just have to be good at mixing drinks, and know how to get the patrons to have a good time. That's how you get "regulars" and great tips.
