Why is the Atheist symbol on the "approved" list of "Available Emblems of Belief for Placement on Government Headstones and Markers", while the Wiccan Pentacle has been stonewalled for nearly a decade? Why do religions such as Eckankar, the United Church of Religious Science, Humanists, Christian Scientists, and the Tenrikyo Church have approved symbols, while Wicca is caught in the bureaucracy? Surely this couldn't be religious discrimination in the United States, could it?

wow. I didn't know that. I'm a Christian, you know already what I'm going to say.

but. Lets look at this on a Democratic side.

No, it is not right by any means. YOU absolutely can NOT pick and choose what ever religion they want, to have what they want.

It doesn't get worse than that. NOW...IF this is a Christian based country, then the Gov, should ban any Markers except Christian. Right? OK. If they allow Anything other than Christian, they have to allow ALL of it.

I agree with you.

I had no idea that atheists could get such an awesome symbol and have it sanctioned by the government. Granted, it kinda looks like an evil 1950's mad-scientist symbol, but what can you do?

"Rather than hire a designer to come up with a symbol for atheists in the armed services, we just stole Dr. Atomic's logo."

Wicca is considered a predominantly female religion. Therefore it's caught up in committee's of the patriarchal bureaucracy. We are not a matriarchal society and we fear all things female. Not to mention one of our founding fathers biggest religious inquisitions occurred in Salem and has roots in what is Wiccan. It's religious discrimination based on fear and the belief that Wicca is of the devil. I'll bet we don't have one confessed witch in the House or Senate to push for this just cause.

Probably because Wicca is relatively underground. Not that many people know what it is and a lot of the people who do think they're Satanists. Which I take offense to. I AM a Satanist!
However, I never knew there was an official symbol for Atheism. Could you perchance provide a web address to where I might find a pic of this symbol?
Ave Satanas!

Ah! sorry, didn't see that. Thank you.

oh so many reasons... and none of them legit!

the wiccan pentacle is the christian symbol for the devil as well, or at least, used in conjunction with witchcraft and the like. And thats no mistake!

The christians had a hard time bringing religion to the wiccans and other "pagans" of europe, and so they co-opted parts of it and used other parts in "witchcraft/devil worship" to soften the transition.

And the united states, the country whos supreme court recenty voted to keep "under god" in the pledge of allegiance because of our religious roots, is very christian. Why do you think bush got elected?

Wiccan is often seen, or referred to, in conjuction or as a synonym for witchcraft. And good ol traditional, christian military? they dont like it.

Fact of the matter is, these men died for their country, and no matter what they believed in, they served us well. They should be allowed to have whatever theyd like on their tombstone (no pun intended), even if its an image of the devil himself. Does it really matter, after all? They already paid the ultimate price.

Wicca was just approved in the past few years as a religious choice for dog tags. I am sure things will change. Alot of red tape needs to be cut through and we do have Bush as our Leader and he doesn't even think we exist.

Because George Bush doesn't believe that "witchcraft" is a religion. I saw this on the White House website. What Mr. Bush fails to realize is that there is more to Wicca than witchcraft. In fact, I don't even call it witchcraft or magic. I call it rituals.

Because we've, quite stupidly, barely gotten past the idea of the whole thou shalt not suffer a witch to live garbage. Wicca is one of the religions that have the misfortune to be widely viewed through Puritan-colored glasses.
