AP classes culminate in a national test (like an SAT but only the one subject) and are worth college credit if you do well on the test. College Prep classes are demanding but generally not to the smae level as AP classes because you aren't held to the national standard of the AP test.

AP classes are at college level courses while CP classes help
prepare students for the courses they'll take in college. Also with
AP classes a student can pay to take a test at the end of the
course and if they score well, they don't have to take the course
in college.

AP classes are college classes you must take as a freshman in college. They offer it in high school & charge about $90 to take the AP test. CP classes are just college preparation.
P.S. Colleges like AP classes way better!

It depends on your school and the specific programs. They are basically the same concept... in advanced placement, students are placed there when they are working about the average level of their peers. college prep is geared toward students going to college, unlike the students taking vocational classes. Normally, students who take college prep classes are above average students as well. So, they are basically the same... the classes are more advanced. Unless you take a dual credit college prep class... in which case you also get college credit.
