watch any two people who like each other talking, and you'll see a lot of mirroring.one smiles, and so does the other.one nods or raises her eyebrows, and so does the ther.faces are like melodies with a natural urge to stay in sync.multiply those movements several years or may be decades of marriage, all those years of simultaneous sagging and drooping, and it's no wonder!

When a person is around another person for extended periods of time, like being married for many years, they tend to begin using the same facial expressions - they might raise their eyebrows the same way to express surprise, for instance.
Any two people doing these sorts of "exercises" repeatedly over long periods, are going to be working the same muscles, and eventually creating the same wrinkles and lines in their faces.
While this may not make them look exactly alike, it will certainly cause them to begin looking similar.
May not be a scientific answer, but it makes sense to me.

It happens in your eyes and mind!! When you see a couple for that long, know them that long and live with them that long, its not surprising to identify the similarities between them!! Yes when the couple of that duration will know each other better and shall act according to what the other likes. This also leads to thinking that they are similar....it has to be so ! Only long marriages and understanding couples can give you this feeling!!!

I really don't think they actually start to resemble each other. I think the people that see them associate them together therefore making it seem as if they resemble each other. They are one, instead of two individuals.

i have seen children who i know are adopted but look like their parents.. some say it's because children mimic facial expressions and tend to look like their adoptive parents cause of that.. so maybe some couples mimic each other and over the yrs beigin to resemble each other..

Because we all look similar. Go to Africa and the people their can't tell us apart. They say that we all look the same. Same thing goes with people you see together all the time... you start to see less of their differences and more of their similarities.

Your observation is absolutely correct. By living to gether with one soul and one mind, the bodyly features also acquire common features which render them, in course of time, look alike.
