I don't think your son would be very happy in the City of Industry. I agree with most of your other responses and as a So Cal Gal ,you couldn't pay me to deal with the crime and people and fwys and all plus the smog, I'm south of LA, closer to San Diego and its coming down here fast, and I wouldn't raise a child there...PSS Gangs too....tell him to find a BETTER offer....Good Luck!

I have to agree with everyone. City of Industry is predominantly lower to lower-middle class, with some pockets of middle class people. Its very inland and very hot during the summer, and the city is primarily industrial (ie: distribution centers, warehouses, etc.).
If he is coming as an assistant manager for a retail store, he better be making at least $35,000 a year to even consider rent, food, and car. Daycare will cost him at least $200-400 a week... so many times most people's paycheck will go to childcare.
The average price of a 1 bedroom apartment is $950-$1100... and that's in a decent neighborhood. The nicer places are more!
Car insurance is mandatory, although there's morons who dont' get it. I would have him go online to see what his insurance rate is. Geico.com may be a good one to try or check mercury insurance.
Gas is right now $3.25 a gallon, average. Some higher, some lower. If he's in Industry I sure hope his store is within 3 or 5 miles.. because traffic is a pain!

The City of Industry is yukky.
The cost of living in LA County is extremely high. You'd have to move out about 70 miles (Palmdale, San Bernadino Valley) to find a decent place that is somewhat affordable.
Gas, in Los Angeles, is $3.20 a gallon. Public transportation is not reliable.
The bad thing is, he will probably make the same money as an Assistant Manager here that he does in Texas.

The City of Industry is kinda sketchy, and has lots of strip clubs.
I would not move to the LA area for an assistant manager job. The cost of living is horrendous there. His career might be better served by moving to someplace like Utah, Nevada or Arizona where there is growth, but things are still reasonably priced.

The City of Industry is a dangerous, low-class dump, and housing is still incredibly expensive. Auto insurance is higher in the LA area than just about anywhere else in the US.

These are all great answers, and quite accurate. I have a feeling that if he "wants" to move to Industry, he's never been there. But, if he must move here, tell him to look for housing in Cerritos, Lakewood, or parts of North Long Beach. These places are 15 to 20 minutes south, and you're more likely to catch a decent neighborhood.
