My first revolver was a Ruger my Daddy gave me and I've been loyal three times......but today at the range this nice man let me try his Sig and wow was it so sexy. Have you seen the two-tone?

I was kinda afraid of getting the .40 cal but it was not much more than the 9. guess I should have tried it before I got the Ruger.

The Sig actually feels better in my small hands.

Maybe you noticed my name? I've had it for like five years. Been shooting since I was a little girl. Daddy was a fed and he took me to the range on weekends with my brothers.

I'd have to keep the name, even if I got the SIG, dont you think?

Nothing is better then a Sig, nothing.
As far as calibers, the .40 blows the 9mm out of the water as far as power. The only reason to choose a 9mm over a .40 is if you shoot a lot. 9mm is much cheaper to buy in bulk, because many foreign countries sell their left over 9mm as surplus ammo. You will pay about 50% less for a box of 9mm compared to .40 caliber.
Strictly shooting targets - 9mm
Shooting at people - .40

I should follow up by making it clear that Ruger is a fine weapon. No argument about that. But if a Ruger is a Cadillac, then Sig is a Rolls Royce and Lambergini all rolled into a single package.

Both are good weapons, but why don't you try a Glock? (For three years I carried on duty my department issued Ruger Model 89 in .9mm. It never, ever malfunctioned--we were qualifying three times a year then, it was rugged as all get out, and very accurate. I only switched because I wanted to carry my own pistol in a larger than .9mm caliber. My issue was not with the caliber, but that in those days if we carried a department issued gun, we had to load the department issued sub-sonic .9mm ammo, which I consider 'less than adequate.')

If you wish to stay with the 9mm, I would recommend the Glock Model 19. It is probably the best all-around modern semi-automatic handgun. I bought a Glock Model 26 (even smaller than the Model 19) for one of my daughters because she wanted the baby version of what her dad carries. The Model 26 is also a good choice for a woman although I would not recommend it for a primary, duty weapon. Even though a fellow female police officer actually shot a better score with her off-duty Glock Model 26, than with her full-size duty Glock model 17. A moot point really, since she shot an extremely high score with both Glocks.

Many rookie police officers (male & female) who had trouble qualifying with the weapon they bought had no trouble once they switched to the Model 19. It is user friendly (like a revolver), large capacity and it has mild recoil (as the polymer frame construction absorbs much of the recoil). A safety point I need to bring up about Glocks. They should be stored unloaded, or in a holster where nothing can 'accidently' hook on the trigger.

The .40 caliber is good but personally I prefer the older .10mm for duty use. I carry an old Model 20 Glock in .10mm. In twelve years plus of service, it has only failed to feed once (so I had it resprung). Its recoil is considered severe by some of my friends who shoot .45s. I don't find it uncomfortable to shoot at all, but then, I have always liked large caliber, big bore guns.

P.S.

The two-tone Sig is cute. If your hands are really small, you might like the Glock Model 26 in .9mm better. If not, stick to your Ruger or that new Sig you like. That a gun fits your hand right is probably the most important factor right after caliber. And oh yes, I do like your picture!

I prefer The sig the tolerences always seemed tighter on a sig and where I worked we had alot more rugers come in for repairs than we had sigs. The reason you feal more comfortable with the bigger grips is because woman have less padding in the palm of the hand than men do.This is something I learned from selling pistols for a number of years and it's a fact most women don't feal comfortable with smaller grips.

When deciding on a gun, it’s like buying a pair of shoes. Buy for fit form and function, then aesthetics. The more comfortable you are with it, the better you will shoot. Everybody has an opinion about which one is better. What works well for me wouldn't work well for you. Ruger makes a good gun. But with their double action pistols, the trigger pull is to long. I prefer a single stack, single action, 1911 base. The SIG is ok but doesn't fit my hand. Allot of people suggest the Glock, dam thing looks like a squirt gun. But it is a very very reliable gun.
Check out Wilson. They make great guns, and pretty ones..HAHA

we call the .40 the smith and weak 40, not much better than a 9, nothing more than a cut down 10mm, 45 acp is proven round, that or 357 ( in revolver ). sigs are great guns ( if you can afford one ), but don't over look H & K as well.

Nice try on the photo. I know it's not yours. I think this is an attempt to seduce guys into answering a question but, to go along with your hypothetical, I'll say that you should stick with the Sig.

Sig is ok, but I have to say that the Springfield Armory 1911 a1 .45 is where it's at! I used to think .9's were where it was at, so I bought a sig p226, but I love my .45 so much I'm buying another one.

I prefer my Glock. Springfield's are awesome love my 1911A1, but also have XD45. Para ordnance also blows away Sig. Walther has a great looking duo-tone. shoots great, but nothing beats my GLOCK.

I'd get a .45 acp myself, but I suppose I am a little larger than you.
