Can anyone explain this behavior and how it came to be? Also, the difference between this and aspergers syndrome?

I have Tourettes. It was first written about by Gilles de Tourettte in 1885. It has probably been around alot longer than when he first wrote about it though.

It is thought that Tourettes is caused by chemical imbalances (mainly dopamine) in the brain. Much research is taking place to try to figure out this puzzling disorder. Medication does not stop all tics, or even most for some people.

Not all people with Tourettes shout obscenities. I never have. That is a common misconception. Please help spread the truth.

Aspergers is a form of Autism.

Hope this helps.

I may have Aspergers and/or Mild Autism. I was diagnosed as BP, although I don't have many of those characteristics. Actually, the only symptom of BP that I do exhibit is rapid speech (at times) and loss of interest in sleep, rapid thoughts and the wild hyper-active "insanity" that comes with the package. Tourettes, I just learned today involves the repeating of curses, twitches and anti-social behaviours. The strangest thing, that I am learnin g is that most of these labels of disfunction can be fit to describe human function and condition. Misdiagnosis is probably more common than true and correct diagnosis and multiple conditions most likely appear in the person too. I do believe that people, asuming the mental capability can re-learn behaviours and function as "normal" in society.

as i teen with tourrets syndrome i beleive i can asnwer this. toureets syndrome is basicly outburst. these outburst can range from a word to letter and even from a sentence. these outburst uccor due to an imbalance of chemicals in the brian. childeren born with torrets often lack certain chemicals telling them to stop or slowdown. its like 2 marching bands: while 1 marching band screams at the other to stop the other is 2 busy playing to understand. people with tourrets soon find an outlet for these outbursts by creating ticks. a tick can be anything example: hand swat, hum, wistle. a tic is the bodies way of balancing these to chemicals. however the obnce balanced they can still be a little off.

aspergers is a form of autistic behavior.
Signs of TS are a twitch physical, like eye rolling, smirking, head turning, shoulder jerking, sometimes interpreted a s an annoying habit ( they can NOT control it) along with a Verbal twitch, like a sniff, cough, throat clearing, chirping, repeating of a certain word or phrase.
To catagorize it as TS it has to last over one year.
Most kids out grow it, MEDS are a BAD idea, .
Need any more info they have online sites.
Knew someone with Aspergeers, that is something totally different,

I can't explain the two, but know that tourettes basically is unvoluntary spoken words/phrases and even others. It also involves shakes, etc.
