I'm not sure about a free online source. Have you checked the Mormon Library in Utah? I could be wrong, but I think the library is located at Brigham Young University. They have the most extensive, accurate records of the ancestry of the US. This is where most people go to begin to trace their genealogy. You may want to contact them for info on a website that they may have. Possibly Ancestry.com?

Just here: http://www.searchgenealogy.net/Births.html Ancestry.com use to but now even they charge a subscription fee. And every database I've checked eventually leads to Ancestry.com.

Sorry for the useless information.
