Your bird sounds skinny. My Noble Macaw Oscar was thin, and my vet recommended feeding him pasta, mashed potatoes, and other people food which he loves. He fattened up nice, and is now healthy. (He's 28 years old)

My Mom raised cockatiels and I don't recall hearing bones popping. You can tell their age by their eyes...young birds have bright eyes and the feathers around them are bright. If it is an older bird the feathers around the eyes are lighter and thinner. They do molt, sort of like dogs shedding all the extra hair in the warm weather. If you take your bird to a pet store that has cockatiels, they should be able to help you. Good Luck!

What's your real question here? The "poping" bones, the elusive red feather, mites, or his age?
