I'm not looking for beaches or parks; I'm looking for rivers, lakes, hiking routes, etc...stuff like that with nice scenery.

In Orange county. off the Ortega highway (74) has very nice hiking trails. you park at the candy store some 15 miles east of San Juan Capistrano. you will need an adventure pass $35 which can be bought at any sports shop
bring lots of water. you might see mountain lions. keep your eyes open.be careful

Start off at Huntington Beach. Events are going on all the time. Find yourself an events newspaper and start from their. You've probably missed the US Open of Surfing, but their will be others later, but not as big.
